Although the Baucher bit is often confused with a curb drill, this bit does not apply polar pressure as there is no pivot point and no leverage. The cheek pieces attach to the smaller rings on the top of the bit while the reins attach to the larger rings on the mouthpiece. The single-joint mouthpiece applies pressure to the tongue and bars when the reins are retracted.
