Product Description

Hollywood racks started in 1973 when we began making trunk-mounted racks in the back of our bike shop in Hollywood, California. Our Aim was simple: we wanted to make good quality products that were easy to use and came fully assembled. We earned a great reputation fast and soon began selling our racks to other bike shops throughout California. By the late '70s, we began selling our racks to bicycle companies such as Schwinn, Peugeot and Nashik. In 1981, we closed the bike shop and opened a small factory in loss angels, CA to exclusively make car racks, then relocated to a larger facility in 1988. In 1989, we began exporting our products to Europe, and in the 1990's we expanded our line to include racks for trailer hitches, pickup trucks and spare tires. We have since relocated our offices, R and d and us warehouse to our present facility in the loss angels area with manufacturing in Taiwan. Our products are available in all 50 States and in over 25 countries worldwide.

This heavy-duty platform-style rack is designed as a 2 + 2 system so it can be easily converted to hold either two bicycles or four bicycles. It mounts on a 2-inch hitch and folds flat against the back of a vehicle when not in use. The rack uses padded universal top clamps and adjustable wheel holders. Bikes need simply to be dropped into the wheel holders and clamps slid down onto the frames. Velcro wheel straps add security. To prevent rack sway, the hitch system is "no-wobble/no-tools" and includes a locking pin and 9-foot security cable. The rack carries a limited warranty against defects.

First, this thing weighs 85 pounds, so it’s not super easy to handle. But it is solid.I like that the receiver pin, bike hooks, and included cable all have the same locking key. Great included security. It was easy to put together. It probably would have taken half the time, if one of the parts weren’t assembled wrong from the factory. The bikes seem stable in the rack. I like that it folds up. I really like that it’s easy to make it rather a two bike or four bike rack.I wish it had reflexive tape already on it. I added my own for bothe the in-use and the folded position.

Very impressed, really good return on investment. I had researched a lot of other platform racks before purchasing this largely based on the price point. I can say that I am not disappointed at all.As long as you follow the instructions the build is pretty straight forward (I also watched a couple of videos). It is heavy, but that's a good thing, as it is well built and translates to being very stable when installed on the SUV. Have used both the 2 bike and 4 bike configurations and really like the ease of use. Tool-less mounting is great, flexibility to angle away from hatch is AWESOME! Don't even need to take the bikes off the rack when I want to open the hatch. It does take a bit of time to learn how to use and fit the bikes properly, but once you do it a few times you are good to go. Highly recommend if you need the 4 bike option.

just finished the 1st big trip with Hollywood Racks HR1400 Sport Rider on the back of the car and really impressed with the quality and innovation of the product.rock solid, no wobbles. easy to adjust. lockable. tiltable - what more do you want?took 2 adults bikes and 2 kid bikes on a long trip. bit of adjusting for the kids bikes to fit but once on there they were fine.had one moment pulling out of a gas station and the driveway was really steep. thought id struggle to clear the back but the bike platform clearance at the back was more than enough.Tilting is a bit heavy with 4 bikes loaded and i needed 2 people to do it. one to take the weight off the platform and the other to pull the pins at the front.Likes: - good ground clearance-fit 2 kids bikes (including a todler bike with training wheels)-twisting lever to tighten connections on hitch so theres no wobbledislikes: - heavywhole unit weighs about 40kgs and is pretty large to store, but i dont see any way around that. just an FYI

This is an excellent product and is well worth the cost. We have taken it on two road trips and it securely holds the bikes in place as you are traveling. Very secure, very easy to put the bikes on and take them off the rack. I would highly recommend this product.

I bought this as a replacement to a "4 bike" traditional hitch rack. I enclose the number in quotes because anyone who has ever tried to mount 4 bikes on a rack like that might as well accept the scratching that results and the frustration involved in adjusting and readjusting them all to fit. Try putting kids bikes on a traditional hitch rack and you're asking for trouble... Been there, done that.On to this rack - it's worth it alone for the ability to set bikes in their respective tire slots over trying to hang them from a set of hanging bars. What's nice about this rack is the adjust-ability of those tire slots. I can now load up 4 different sized bikes in less than half the time it took me using the traditional hanging rack. They sit so much better in the rack and are much more stable and secure. Night and day difference. The velcro straps hold the tires in the loops very securely, and the frame hooks that lower down over the top tubes seem to hold them very securely as well. One caution (the "catch" I mention in the subject line) - the loops work well with 29" and 26" MTB tires, but not as well with the 16" tires on my kids' bikes. They sit in the loops just fine, but the rear tires sit so low in the loop you run the risk of rubbing or damaging the rear derailleurs on kid bikes with smaller tires. I was able to deal with it by adjusting where the loops land on the tires, but during the test fit I nearly bent one of the derailleurs in the process. One other minor inconvenience - it you have rear cameras or backup sensors on your vehicle and aren't able to disable the noise of the alarms, be ready to listen to them every time you back up (solid "look out!!!" tone). The rack blocks them pretty well when folded up (or loaded up). Not a big deal, but given the weight of the rack I prefer leaving it on the hitch.Until this rack I'd never heard of "Hollywood Racks", but I have so far been very impressed with the design and function of the rack. Assembly took about 2 hours (slow pace with several interruptions of "are you done yet?" and "can I help?"). I like it so far.

I've been looking for a rack with some specific criteria for a while - capacity for 4 bikes, platform rack, solidly constructed, holds mountain or road bikes, 2+2 configuration for when the family stays home. This was the best value.Things I really like:* This rack can fold in multiple ways - the top tube folds sideways, so the whole rack can fold up while attached to the car. Or the side tubes fold up for surprisingly compact storage. Locking pins are secure & make for easy setup.* Includes a locking hitch pin and long cable lock in the package.* Holds the bikes very securely. I had a hangning-style rack, and the bikes were too close, swung into each other damaging 2. This is rock solid. The bikes are held very securely.* Ratcheting hold down clamps - once it's configured for your bikes, it's very quick to put the bikes on and off.Workable, but minor annoyances:* Attaching the extension to carry 4 bikes requires a wrench & two bolts with lockwashers - there's no quick disconnect. But on the plus side, it's much more secure, and only takes a minute.* Two bikes that are exactly the same frame size can be a challenge, especially with horizontal top tubes. If the bikes are too close in size, the clamps can interfere. If there's any tilt to the top tube, it's much easier, or you can secure one clamp to the downtube. I made everything work, but it takes some configuration time when 2 bikes are identical in size.* A padlock can lock the ratcheting clamps in place for extra security, but the holes are small - a standard Master lock doesn't fit. You need the kind with the smaller clasp.* It's heavy. But to be fair, that's also a bonus - it needs to be heavy duty. But just know it's awkward to lift when fully assembled. I store it in 2 parts, which is much more workable.* To secure the rack to the hitch, there's a threaded rod that creates tension on the hitch pin. Cool idea, but it takes some minor fiddling to get the hitch pin through the clamp properly. Not a big deal.* The design of the main support is on an upward incline away from the car, which was smart, but it's still a big contraption and fairly close to the ground. Fire roads with steep transitions or parking lots crossing really high sidewalks need to be taken s-l-o-w-l-y. Don't expect to go crazy off-roading with this. At least not at high speed. I bottomed out only once - no damage - but it can happen, so take it easy.Despite any minor annoyances, this was EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I highly recommend it. If you're even slightly mechanically inclined, this is a piece of cake. It's solidly built, does what it's supposed to do.
