If you're not a techie, I'll sum this up by saying it's pretty much plug-n-play. Since I am, I wanted to get a bit more in depth considering the lack of real reviews of this product so far.First, the good:1 - Condition is as listed, excellent. All accessories present.2 - Installation on Comcast was a breeze, which is a welcome change to my recent experience with Arris SB8200s.3 - Once installed, it activates and resets quickly, and shows DOCSIS 3.1 connections (even though Comcast does not seem to enable this for upstream connections).4 - Given a successful installation I'll be keeping this around and hope for a good long life. Unlike Netgear and Arris products, I doubt you could fry an egg on the case. It seems to run pretty cool. Link speeds are as good or better than expected, and speed and line levels are comparable to those measured on the SB8200 I removed. Now, the not so good:1 - No manual in the box, just a quick start guide. However, full docs are available for download at the Hitrontech.com web site. Seller could have included a link there in this product listing, but apparently did not do so.2 - No sticker on the box or in it which contains the serial number and MAC address, which are required for installation. Granted, the sticker on the unit has this info but having a separate copy available for use is the norm, and would be a nice touch. Or perhaps this is another case where Amazon put their sticker over the top of information the user needs, sometimes happens.3 - No mention of warranty in this listing. It's unclear to me whether it will be the same as for a new unit, something different or none at all.4 - This thing is huge compared to others. Just sayin' ...5 - All of the above are minor annoyances. However, the following design decisions are why I can't love this unit. The norm in the industry is that you can connect to the user interface on the unit via IP address 192.168.100.0. This is the case on this, as well, but with a twist. Even once up and activated you cannot make that connection via your router as is the case on every other cable modem I've ever dealt with. You must instead set up a device with a static IP address in the 192.168.100.x network and connect directly to the modem. That's right, folks. This critter will reject any attempt to connect from any device not in the 192.168.100.x network. Given the hoops you jump through to connect, it's no wonder there's no user name or password required. Most folks won't care, but given the poor support Comcast provides, if I have an issue I want to quickly jump in and see what the modem will tell me about recent errors. And here we get to the worst part. Assuming you do set up a device so you can access it, you can see:1- System Information - s/n, MAC address, hw and sw versions, time and uptime.2 - DOCSIS WAN - Signal level, SN Ratio, channel IDs and error stats (normal stuff)3 - LAN Port status - info on connections to the 2 LAN portsWhat is totally missing is access to the Error Log. Yep, if it's been up and down like a yo-yo you won't be able to tell it. If there's an error log, only Comcast can see it if they choose to. No wonder Comcast recommends this unit. :)So far, it seems like a pretty decent value. I guess time will tell if it's worth the aggravation of a ridiculous user interface..

I needed to replace a DOCSIS3.0 Motorola, combo modem/router after it died after 5 years of use.I wanted to upgrade to DOCSIS3.1 and future proof my modem with at least 1GB of potential speed as well as separate the WiFi to allow for a WiFi upgrade without needing to replace the modem. After researching available options and comparing prices I kept coming back to this refurbished Hitron. The potential quality for the price was too good to pass up.First off the modem was packaged well, visually I could not tell it was not “new”. All documentation and accessories were included.Set up was easy, the longest part was contacting my isp to register the new device. I only require 2 wired plug ins, so this modem was sufficient for that purpose.Speed wise, I’m extremely happy and getting the most out of my isp plan.I have not had any technical issues since install several months ago.Highly recommend this refurbished option from Hitron to save some money.
