This is a single stage portable filter for taking along to a campground. It does a pretty good job of making the water taste better with the supplied filter. The hose connections are perfect for putting inline to the city connection, or for doing a hose fill of the tank for boondocking (although that might take longer than before since this filter does slow the flow rate down some). You can also opt for a permanent install if you want, the filter top takes 3/4" MIP fittings if you want to connect to pex or the like (you have to supply your own fittings in this case). This thing is rather heavy for what it is, the filter basket and top are really stout plastic, and that is where most of the weight comes from. You will want to have a short lead in hose to go from the filter to your city water connector, I would not want the weight of this hanging off my fill connector. It also comes with a filter basket wrench and teflon tape for installing the hose connections and a hose gasket for the female side. I also like the handle that it comes with. Don't be like me and forget to install the hose fittings through the handle! I didn't have any issues with leakage, use plenty of teflon tape. I did 10 wraps of teflon tape. The filter basket itself has two o-rings, and they are pre-lubed. You will need to remove the filter from the housing and take off the plastic from the filter before use. They don't say how many gallons this will filter before needing a replacement, but if it is like similar ones, it should be around 20,000 gallons. I'll likely need to replace it long before then just due to age, because we don't use more than a 500 gallons a year camping. This filter is higher in price than some other single stage filters available and less expensive than some others, but I have no experience with them. I can say that this one seems really sturdy and well made, and I am happy with it.

Water quality varies greatly across the United States, and even from city to city and RV park to RV park. You never know what your gonna get when you hook up your hose. And there's things in water that you just don't want to let into an expensive rv...gravel, sand, silt, algae, dirt, and lots of other things! This whole house filter solves that problem...it comes with a filter installed and a filter wrench. The filter housing is made of thick, tough plastic, and the connectors are solid brass and will last a long time.I installed this filter between the hose spigot and my rv, so I needed 2 drinking water hoses to accomplish that task. The hoses hooked up easily with no leaks. In a couple of minutes I was up and running with no more contamination worries.

I recently moved and no longer have city water. The well water here is quite brown - high iron levels. I tried one of the small popular inline RVs hose filters and it didn’t seem to make any notable difference in the iron load as the water was still quite brown. You typically need a 5 micron or smaller filter to address iron and this filter fits the bill - bingo clear water.I looked up buying all the parts separately instead of a kit like this and it was a better deal than separate, plus it comes with a metal handle as well. It’s a good quality basic big blue filter with the adapters necessary to use it with your garden hoses. It was pretty easy to assemble if you have basic plumbing skills. The only thing that I would like to see added to this kit is a small packet of silicone o-ring lube (the o-rings were lightly lubricated so I don’t need any yet). I prefer quick connect brass hose fittings which you can buy separately on Amazon.I am using this filter for filling my hot tub off the hose bib that is not connected with any filter. The flow rate is good with a high flow. As I said the filtered water is very clean and clear. If you’re using it to fill your hot tub or pool once you shock the water you will find that there’s still some iron in the water. You will need to still use a metal chelating product like Metal B gon to get rid of all the iron. I would like to try a different filter with lots of KDF media to see if that takes care of iron enough to the point that I don’t need to add Metal B Gon.This is the best big blue setup I’ve seen so far if you’re looking for a serious in-line hose filter with a popular big blue filter size. 4.5 stars - recommended!
