Some rivets flush, some a little under head, and most left 1/2" post on a 42 rivet job can't say for sure rivets or cutting or gripping mechanism, I had a cut off wheel handy on a Dremel, for the price and amount of times I would use it, a good cheap tool to have around.

Gave an old aluminum boat a new life being able to hold the seams back together where old rivets were breaking or busted

Installed 80 aluminum rivets 5/32". If it doesn't grab, try to fully push apart the handles.
