I ordered for the wrong model mower so the spindles were wrong for my application...that was my fault. I kept the parts and used the bearings in front wheels. Fitment was perfect works perfect.

Look closely at your parts before ordering these. Somewhere during production, John Deere changed the front end structure on the D140. If you pull up a schematic on JD’s page you will find 2 different sets of parts (2 different schematics) for the D140. These do not look anything like the parts on my mower and I made the mistake of assuming that if it fit another reviewer’s D140 it would fit mine. The 1 star review is not for the parts themselves (which seem fine) it’s to grab attention so other D140 owners can save some time.

Ordered item , received on Wednesday, installed following Saturday ,,, or should I say ,, attempted to install. This was supposed a direct replacement for the Steering Axle Spindle ( both sides ), complete with spindles, washers, clips, and wheel axle cover. Removed original axle, put new one in spindle housing ,,, and ,, guess what ,,, the washer and clip DON'T FIT ,, the shaft is to short for both the washer and clip to fit. Without washer axle boot does not stay on, with just the clip there is excessive movement ( up and down ) of shaft, creating undo pressure on clip and eventually breaking off. Ok,, maybe I was using wrong spindle ,, nope, spindle will only go on one way ,, oh, another issue is neither new spindle is marked L or R ,, so it takes a few minutes to organize which goes to which side ,, the new spindles do not match the original in design ,, but close enough ,, if they would fit going in. Anyway ,, the two photos ,, one with my thumb is original shaft,, other one is the new one ,,, look closely at the top of shaft protruding thru top of spindle housing ,,,, just didn't fit ,, period ,,,, so these are going back and either decide to re-order or just get bearings ,, actually the original axle shafts looked pretty good despite only having bushings on them after so many times being used ,,, so I'm thinking bearings only ,,, that's it ,, the spindle shafts were just a smidge to short to work ,,,
