I use my bench grinder mostly for sharpening wood chisels, drill bits, and other steel tools. This 80-grit grinding wheel seemed like a good fit for my purposes, and the price was right so I ordered one up. My grinder has a 5/8" arbor and this wheel is designed for a 1-1/4" arbor. I measured the hole at 1.265" and machined a nylon spacer to fill the gap. The hole in the grinding wheel is not very straight so I had to leave a little "slop" in order to have the wheel run true on my grinder. Once installed I noticed quite a lot of vibration with the wheel running out of round and also oscillating a little bit side to side. Typically you need to "dress" a new grinding wheel, especially an inexpensive one such as this, so I was not too surprised with the initial performance. I dressed the face of my wheel using a diamond cup disc borrowed from my 4-1/2" angle grinder (a technique that works amazingly well). After dressing I had virtually no vibration. I took a few test cuts on a dull wood chisel and was quite impressed with how well it worked. The tool stayed fairly cool compared to my standard gray wheels, and the cutting action was very smooth. Overall this wheel seems to work great after getting it dialed in. For a wheel in this price range I think you should expect some minor fitment issues and definitely plan on dressing the wheel after installation. Sometimes I like to grind tools against the side of my grinding wheel, which is not recommended by the manufacturers. Putting heavy pressure against the side can cause a wheel to break - I use light pressure and do it frequently without any problems. Because this wheel has a fair amount of side to side flutter I don't think it will work well for grinding against the side. But to be fair, that's not what its designed for.

My husband is pretty careful about what he buys or orders online when it comes to his tools and items that he must work with in the shop. This was a neat product for him to have for what it is needed for, but it turned out that even though he and I both checked, this grinder wheel for a bench saw just didn't end up fitting my husband's work area. It was a disappointment but it is a keen reminder to watch what you order online. Other than that, it seemed like a fine grinder wheel for what it is worth, sturdy, strong, and workable in most situations-- if it fits, which is my bad.
