Good support for lens, holds firmly, dropped a star as it sometimes needs tightening.

This actually functions better than the Canon OEM collar at 1/5th the price. No, it doesn'l "lock on" to the lens, but the OEM version is poorly designed and scratches the lens. This collar has a nice soft inner ring and just acts as a clamp on foot. You do have to spend a few seconds centering it, but once it's tight the lens is ready to mount on a tripod or monopod. It doesn't slip at all It also comes with a built in Arca Swiss foot. The $200 Canon version does not.

As many Canon lens owners can sympathize, the factory lens collars are terrible. They refuse (until the most recent RF L lenses) to switch to an Arca-swiss compatible foot and this drove me to seek out 3rd party options. I found this Haoge product to have an excellent fit and finish for a reasonable price.Very happy with my purchase and highly recommend! I will be switching all my lenses over to use Haoge from now on.

For those of you who have been moving into the world of mirrorless photography and chose to go with Canon's RF line, as impressive as the photographic results can be, we have all been left scratching our heads as to why Canon seems to make their loyal customers not only pay MORE on average for their glass, but they often cheaply leave off important essentials from those expensive lens kits. I mean, most/all of Canon's non-L (aka Luxury) lenses don't come with a simple lens hood. I know of no other manufacturer that makes its customers purchase a separate lens hood for $30-40; they all include the hood with the lens. Thankfully, there are 3rd party hoods that cost 7-10 dollars, but its just an indignity to have to go shopping to backfill what Canon should have provided in the first place. But then... you spot a Canon lens like the (Luxury Series) RF100mm F2.8 L Macro is USM. $1000 is allot to invest in a 100mm Macro lens, especially when there are 3rd party offerings for less than half the price. But still, after reading the reviews, and seeing how this lens filled my kit with both a solid macro lens, but a equally impressive portrait lens... I decided to make the investment. Happily the L-Series INCLUDED THE HOOD and a storage bag/case! But this lens weighs in at 1.6lbs. KNOWING the average photographer will likely want to employ a tripod for both macro & portraiture, its is just odd that they chose to cheap out again, and not provide a tripod mount to support the weight of this lens. For that option, you need to find an additional $200 to purchase one from Canon.OK, OK...So what is my review on Haoge's solution? I almost never review any item I have had in my possession for after less than 24 hours. But in the short time, I really believe this device (although not 100% perfect) is going to fit the bill for me quite nicely.PROs: Though not identical in design and function, once installed this mount FIRMLY grips the lens. I was not at all concerned about slippage. The inner felt provides grip, but also seems unlikely to scratch the lens housing. Its simple to install, and reasonable to adjust. It works with old-school traditional screw mounts (as in my pics) or Arca-Swiss. I had it up and running (on an older tripod I need to replace) in minutes. All of this at 1/6th the price of the OEM.CONs. The collar does not have a hinged pivot, allowing it to open wide enough to install/uninstall while the lens is mounted to the camera body. It is one solid metal ring, so unfortunately the lens must be removed from the camera body to install/remove the collar. This is pesky, but not a show stopper.Neutral. If it is your hope to loosen the tension and rotate the lens w/out having to reposition the tripod, this will take some TLC. However, from what I have read, some (not all) have indicated the Canon OEM can also be a little finicky when trying to rotate in position. But I have no experience with the OEM mount, so take that with a grain of salt. Its just hear-say.Point is,At 1/6the the price, I have no problem recommending folks consider paying the cost of admission and take it for a test-drive. So far, I am happy with the solution. I just wish Canon had just provided one part of the RF100mm F2.8 L Macro is USM kit in the first place.

This mount does not provide any kind of separate plastic collar to prevent the lens from twisting out of alignment. The OEM product from Canon has two pieces, a plastic collar that aligns with the three small grooves on the lens plus the actual mount. This product is a simple soft lined mount (basically a clamp) for you lens. If you never rotate the lens (e.g. from landscape - portrait) you will do just fine. But rotating your $1400 lens will be challenging, requiring you to re-align and re-focus every time plus risk the lens falling out of the collar. Simply not worth it, there are other option from Amazon. I returned mine immediately.

1/4 the price of the Canon OEM and includes a Area base, which saves another $50 or so for RRS Area base. Works as it should.

The collar fits. It holds the lens. But it doesn't inspire confidence, especially if you hope to rotate the lens in the collar. It only offers a friction grip with no tabs to hold the lens in place when rotating. Easy for the lens to slip off the ring once you loosen the screw enough to rotate the lens easily. Sure wish that Canon didn't charge close to $200 for their collar!
