Since John Deere crafts their lawnmower with some cheap parts anymore and does not stand behind their product, we had to go out and buy this part, so the steering would work. We only had the lawn mower for three years, and this is the second time that this part has worn through. Hopefully, this part will last longer.

Gear was a direct fit for my LA145 and cheaper than my local dealer. If doing your own repair, then you probably don't need this review where you'll know what parts are needed.For a LA145 with steering play, local dealer did not have GX20053 (steering gear) in stock. Could have the item from another location, and something like $18. The teeth on my gear were worn after 10 years of service where steering sector (GX21924BLE) was ok. I did not seem to have play in the steering shaft at the steering plate, so did not need bushings (GX21994).Fitment list mentions all L100 and LA series - yes that the steering gear is a replacement for GX20053 on my LA145. I did not expect the bushing included to fit as a replacement to a rod bushing on my LA145. GX20054 is used elsewhere on my lawn tractor, but the bushing included is not a replacement for GX21994 (where quantity = 2 needed if replacing the rod bushings at the plate).
