This product is rather hefty and seems pretty heavy duty. Great for making many circle cuts for puck LED lights.

This is a perfect tool for shop use or whatever. It is made to last and has no flimsy aspects about it. Adequate for your needs when making or scribing circles or arcs.

The piece that holds the pencil was broken when I received it. The design is such that the adjustment screws grind against the steel bar each time you adjust it for size !!! Such a shame. I would have returned it, but I had been delaying a project until it came. I taped the pencil on

I would give it five stars but the pivot surfaces where the legs come together are filed rather than machined, These surfaces are so rough that trying to adjust the separation of the points with any degree of accuracy is impossible. Also, there is no way to adjust the tension on the pivot surfaces or separate the legs to clean up these surfaces and make it a useful tool. I would not recommend this item.

The dividers came in a plastic bag and were soaked in a thick, sticky oil to prevent rusting. Some of the oil even leaked out of the bag. I had to waste a lot of time cleaning up the mess. Adding insult to injury, while cleaning up that nasty oil, I cut my thumb on the curved, slotted bar used to lock in a setting. I had to waste even more time filing off the knife sharp edges (would it have killed the manufacturer to have tumbled this part before riveting it to the divider leg?) and opening up the slightly undersized slot.Once I got rid of the mess and the sharp edges on the slotted bar, the dividers work reasonably welll. I can either use them as dividers or add a pencil to use it as a compass. Once I filed down the knurling on the barrel of my replaceable carbide tipped scriber a little bit, I can put it in the pencil holder for scribing circles and arcs on sheet metal without worrying about wearing out the divider points.

Works well, but mechanism is not as smooth as others I have owned. Anchors for locking mechanism should have been drilled equidistant from pivot point for smoother operation. Had to cut off point on pencil side. Still, it is a solidly made tool for a good price.

This divider is OK for use in your shop or building projects, but it is quite frankly too large and bulky for any High School student to use effectively. The divider is very awkward for example, when attempting to make a 1/2" or 3/4" arc, which students must often do while completing their lessons. Attempting to scribe or draw a circle diameter of less than 2" will result in tearing the paper no matter how gentle and proficient you are with the tool. Use it on wood and larger construction type tasks (like for your shop projects) and it will be fine.

Wow, what a nice tool. I bought this for my woodworking activities based on my experience with another Grizzly Industrial product; one of their quality built table saws which I own. I wasn't sure how robust this would be given the price and am very happy with how strong and stout this is. The picture doesn't do the item justice. It came with a generous coating of grease to prevent rusting which wiped off easily. If you need to draw arcs or circles, this is your tool. Will last my lifetime and a few more.

Solid heavy all metal construction with no sign of rust. The wing does not have gradient markings. The divider legs are cleanly manufactured. The wing is slightly rough, that is, not as nicely polished. The pencil holder is large enough to take one of those thick pencils some kids learn to write with. The threads on the knob is generous and easily lock down a standard size pencil. The wing nut securely holds the position of the divider. This is a pleasant change from many of the compasses I have tried to use in my woodworking. The is no country of origin stamped on it.The down side. Somewhere between assembly and shipment to me the divider had been dropped on a hard surface bending one point and smashing the other point. With a little effort I cleaned up and reshaped the points with a fine metal file.I would buy again.

Sturdy tool, functions exactly as expected. Only issue is it arrived packaged in a bag that seemed to be lined with some sort of oil/grease so was a bit messy opening and had to wipe it down.

This is a heavy duty compass that accepts standard pencils. There are three sizes, all work very well. However, they are no doubt outlawed in most public schools. They fail to teach personal responsibility and prohibit the use of thinks that can be useful. After 35 years of teaching, I recommend keep your child at home and teaching him or her yourself. Buy the compass! Your grandmother can teach better, because teachers are prevented from teaching. The air-heads from university education departments, teachers unions, and politicians have turned public education into indoctrination camps.
