Used GLOTRENDS PA09-HS M.2 NVMe to PCIe 4.0 X4 Adapter to install a 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD in my 10-year-old computer build that is sporting an ASUS GRYPHON Z97 motherboard and Intel i7-4790K CPU. Been running a Samsung 1TB SATA 850 Pro SSD for ten years with no issues at all but, need more hard drive space. I knew going in this was on the edge of working at all but had to give it a shot. A new 2TB Samsung SATA drive is three to four time more expensive than this newer Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 drive. The Z97 only support PCIE 3.0 so I knew before getting started I wouldn't get the full speed out of the drive, if this worked at all, but it would at least be a little faster that the SATA drive it was to replace. After installing the adapter and drive I booted PC as normal. Device manger showed the new devices installed. Running the latest version of Samsung Magician software showed the new drive as available for data migration. It performed the migration on the fly in 45 minutes. Next, I turned off the computer and disconnected my old drive. Went into the BIOS settings, and the new drive showed in the boot menu. Selected the drive and the computer booted right up with the new drive. More as an experiment than a necessity I noticed the drive was setup with old school MBR partition table so decided to upgrade the file system to the more modern GTP partition table using MiniTool Partition Wizard 12. After doing so the computer would not boot until I set the boot mode in the BIOS to UEFI mode by disabling fast boot mode. Computer boots right up and all is well! Also, I didn't use the included heat sink as according to the Samsung Magician software the drive is running well within specs averaging 90-100°F without it. Nice to be able to squeeze more life out of this old computer that is still plenty fast for what I use it for. I highly recommend the GLOTRENDS PA09-HS M.2 NVMe to PCIe 4.0 X4 Adapter with M.2 Heatsink for M.2 NVMe SSD.

Glad I chose to save some money and grab this product instead of the more expensive ones. It works better than I thought it would. My only issue was with the install process of the heatsink. I also have some advice for the instructions that were included. The instructions warn you about using the metal clips if they touch solder points. I bought a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB to go with this. I looked on the back and didn't see any exposed solder points. When trying to get the metal clip on I slid it from the end. It scratched the board. I could see exposed copper. The solder points are actually painted over, and didn't realize this. I removed the metal clip and was lucky the my component still worked. I used the elastics provided instead. I suggest that the manufacturer add to instructions "Do not slide metal clips because it will scrape the surface. Instead, clip on one side and clip over the top for the second side." Note, using the metal clips will scratch the heatsink if anyone cares about that. I would suggest to just use the rubber elastic bands and forget about the metal clips. My second install advice for installation is to remove only one side of the sticky thermal pad at a time. Don't remove both sides at the same time or you will be getting your fingers all over the sticky stuff. Remove one side and get it centered and alights and stuck to the chips. Then remove the second side carefully as to not pull the whole this off. Then put the heatsink on it.Another piece of advice I have is to check your Motherboard PCI Express information in your motherboard manual. Your Motherboard might share lanes between different slots. So be aware that even though you might have a physical 16x slot, it doesn't mean the slot will run at 16x. For example, my Motherboard has a 16x slot that will only run at 4x, and if you are sharing with lanes with another slot, you might not even get the 4x. I attached two screenshots showing these limitations of the Motherboard I have. I chose the PCIEX4 for this adapter so that I wouldn't mess with the bandwidth of my graphics card. (And also because I have a better cooling option on lower slot)For my experience with this adapter, I have better than expected results. I get better IOPS than the one directly on the Motherboard's M.2 slot. Though MB/s is slightly lower. I installed this right above my PSU, which has a fan in it. So it runs pretty cool at 27C compared to the Motherboard's M.2 drive running at 43C (51C too). There is a bright red light that illuminates NVMe on the adapter.Attached two screenshots of SAMSUNG Magician software to show the temperature and performance benchmark comparison. It's not exact apples to apples, so you need to leave some room for error. A 500GB drive is on the Motherboard's M.2 slot right near the CPU. The 500GB drive has no heatsink/cooling dedicated to it. The 500GB drive is a few years old. The 2TB drive is new and is connected to this adapter. The 2TB drive has the heatsink installed and is about 15mm away from the PSU fan that pulls air down and out the back of the case. Both show as PCIe Gen. 3 x 4 and use the NVMe Driver from Samsung.

This is a well made product that represents good value for money. It was easy to setup and works 100%. However, I did use another heat sink for the card rather than use the one that is packaged with it.There is one small criticism and that concerns the quality of the screwdriver that is packaged with this PCIe card. It had a very deformed head and would not work on the retaining screw for the NVMe drive. I can see why others who have purchased this product might have had problems with this screw (admittedly it is very tight though). The heat sink that I purchased, to substitute for the one that came with the PCIe card, is this one:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KDDKDNN?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsI installed a 4Tb NVMe drive onto the card and wanted to ensure it was well-cooled. The card runs very well with this combination and doesn't get anywhere near max temperature.I installed it in PCIe slot 3 (x4) on an Asus Crosshair Dark Hero motherboard. The heat sink that came with the PCIe card may have worked just as well but I was dubious about the way it was recommended to be attached to the PCIe card (silicone bands or, alternatively, metal retaining clips) which could easily scratch the circuitry on the bottom of the NVME M.2 drive.
