This device combines two measurement tools in one package: inclinometer and angle gauge. So not only can you measure an angle of any surface to the horizon, but also you can measure angle between 2 surfaces using angle to the horizon as a basis for calculation. The device is slightly bigger than a match box. It runs on a single AAA battery (included). Small backlit LCD screen shows selected mode (i.e. 0-90 or 0-180), rotational direction (i.e. counter or clockwise) and angle value in degrees. Device has a memory hold, mode and 0 degree calibration button that also doubles as power on/off. Calibration can be done using bubble level perfectly horizontal surface.

I picked this up with a couple of applications in mind. First, I use this for woodworking to set my saw blades angle on my table saw. Once zero'ed on the table I attach it to the blade and dial in the exact angle I need. I bet much better results than I did using the built in angle gauge on the table. The other application is setting my fixture angle that holds the stones for my knife sharpener. If I'm going for a 20 degree angle I simply zero this gauge on the table that supports the knife and then set my rod angle to the correct angle. As a result I get a perfect setting that removes less steel and is much easier to set different angles for different blades.

This is a decent little angle gauge that I've found is a lot easier to use than my compass or mechanical gauges in a lot of cases, but I have noticed that it can error by a couple tenths when trying to read steep angles. Almost like there's a little bit of stiction on a mechanical gauge. That said, it's not a bad level at all, but don't expect fractional precision. The magnets are useful for getting various readings and setting materials and tools. It is pretty easy to read from a distance as well.

Well, at first this was not a good experience. Upon installation of the included battery, All I could get was an "ERR" display. I tried all sorts of button combinations with no success. (Items like this never seem to advise the buyer that this sort of button pushing combo is needed to get the device going, so I always try this when an electric device fails to operate.) So, that first was returned and a replacement was requested. The requested item arrived next day.Well, again, the replacement showed "ERR" on the display. But, the button pushing routine made this one come to life. I set the calibration, based on the instructions and it is now operating perfectly. The quality is very good with all buttons operating with a solid feel. The device has a magnet in the base to make it cling to metal objects and not slip or slide. (The magnet is not real strong though) I have measured the tilt reported against a mechanical angle gauge and it appears to be spot on target. This is a very nice device once it is operational. I do wish that they would either advise the buyer on setting it into action or, better yet, correct that so that it will be operational as soon as the battery is placed into it.

After using an analog version of this device many years ago, this digital model caught my eye. It would have been so much easier . . . So, it was ordered. The gauge package arrived in 11 days which was earlier than the initial estimated delivery interval and within the second one. The factory box was a bit squished but its contents appeared to be undamaged. This gauge requires one AAA battery which was included. The battery is housed in a compartment which has a cover that is held in place by three small Phillips screws. Not the easiest battery installation but it could be one of the most secure! The device is fairly small at around 2.4" square and just over an inch thick. After noticing that it was off by 5 or 6 degrees, I spent a few minutes trying to get it to complete the 3 step calibration process. Kept getting that annoying ERR display. Finally, somehow, don't ask me how, it managed to complete the process. Afterward, it worked very well during my testing.

I got my digital angle gauge today, and am already writing a review. Once you get the battery in and figure out the error message, you're almost done. I put the battery in and looked at screen, it says ERR. I checked the manual, one sheet of paper, and that message doesn't show. After swapping the battery out twice, I figured it out. It needs to be set down on a stationary object. I got this to help me build some cabinets. I put in in a stereo cabinet I built. It showed .1 degree. I leveled them up pretty close. I then pressed the button for INC. Now when you hold the gauge against the upright part of cabinet, it gives the angle between the 2 pieces. No math involved. Cycled it on and off and re-measured the same angle and got same measurement, so it's consistent. It does more than this, but I don't need anything else. The housing is hard plastic, feels sturdy. Has a good size screen that is easy to read, easier to read than the instructions. I was impressed with the battery housing, the cover just lays against back but has 3 screws. There is a metal nut molded into the back of the case so it won't strip out. They are small screws but a #1 Phillips will work on them. You need a tiny screwdriver for that. The buttons are under the surface of the case so they won't pop off and get lost. It is almost 2.5x2.5 inches on face, and a little over an inch deep, so kind of bulky to carry in pants pocket. The only problem I had was with the instruction sheet. It is one sheet, folded up. They have little pictures of the buttons, showing you which one to punch. The writing on the picture is so small so can't read the writing to tell which one they want you to punch. Luckily, there are only 3, so its fairly easy to figure out. And then the ERR button, not being mentioned. All this could be fixed and made this a better experience, they have a great product.
