I've used Craftsman tools for years. A number of years ago, I started buying Gearwrench. I love their ratcheting tools. the fine toothed ratcheting gives more turning when in tight spaces. They are built well enough to take a beating. They are now my go-to tools for most tasks.

Offset box end and reversing lever. This is way better that the straight versions you commonly see that require the wrench to be flipped over to reverse it. This allows the wrench to be used in more places, and at better angles. I paid well over $300 for a Snap-On / Blue-Point brand set of metric rachet wrenches around 30 years ago. Recently, the 19mm wrench went missing. I finally gave up looking and replaced it with this Gear Wrench version for less than half of what a used version of the Blue-point part was going to cost. Good choice on may part, can't really tell much difference if you cant read the part number.

I picked up this wrench for the convenience of removing/tightening ball lock keg posts for cleaning. I didn't have a ratcheting combination wrench in this size, so I picked this one up. It works perfectly and, unlike the wrenches in the small set I do have, has the directional switch on one side so it's easy to put it on and go without having to look for the embossed arrow. The ratcheting makes it super easy to work in the limited space between the rubber handles. As a tool in general, I'm pleased with the build quality, too.

Although I've aged out of most of my heavy DIY and car tinkering activities, I still keep a nice assortment of hand tools around. I recently had occasion to replace three pressure-assisted toilet tanks under a recall. A very simple job, but it involved removing and replacing 1/2" nuts from two VERY long studs on each tank, from underneath. My DIY activities have been paid for over the years by paying MYSELF with whatever kool tool I needed to do the job. In this case, I bought this very niceREVERSIBLE wrench--even though I already have a 1/2" combination ratchet in my set.Since I well remember installing these toilets some 20 years ago, I knew the job would be awkward, and that properly tightening the soft, thick rubber gaskets would take several successive adjustments each, I demanded the best tool for the job. I agreed with myself that this was it.For most jobs a plain wrench is OK, but a combination ratchet is a labor-saver. But since I knew I'd have to work blind and upside-down, and successively adjust the nuts up and down for a level fit, this was a delight. I was happy to pay myself for a great job.Another advantage of this reversible wrench is it's tilted up a few degrees to provide knuckle clearance; ordinary ratchets have to be flat so you can flip them over to reverse them (and then fumble around to find the invisible nut again.)And no, I do not make house calls!

Nice wrench, at par with all other non professional series of tools, thickness is good and ratcheting mechanism is also good.

I went and bought the Craftsman reversible wrench, which looks amazingly like this wrench, and that's where the similarities end. The Craftsman wrench has to be almost coaxed into reversing. There has to be some action to enable the lever to be moved, where this one is as simple as flipping the lever. I was surprised at the, admittedly minor, difficulty in reversing the Craftsman wrench. I ended up buying this one as the function is uniform with the other GearWrench reversible wrenches that I own. Also I thought that I had lost this size wrench from the multi-wrench reversible kit I had bought, but apparently it wasn't included in that kit, which I thought was odd, but I end up using the 10 and 12 a lot more than the 11 which in itself is odd I guess. While both this one and the Craftsman are solid wrenches, and I believe both have lifetime warranties, this GearWrench is in my opinion the better of the two. I have only tried these two brands to, so there might be other brands out there, but I wouldn't look farther than GearWrench.I only wish they were 'Made In America'...

As anyone who's used them knows, the GearWrench reversible combination wrench is one of the most functional wrenches available, provided that you get the ones without the ridge in the box end. Why the ones available at most of the popular home improvement and department/tool stores have this "feature", I don't know. However, it limits you to using the wrench with the angle of the handle pointing away from the fastener. As any auto or aircraft mechanic knows, there are some areas with limited space where it's only possible (or much easier) to use a wrench with the angle of the handle pointing towards the fastener. This wrench does not have the ridge in the box end, and that's a good thing. I've had a set of these wrenches for close to 10 years and they have held up well. They are of very good quality, but as with any ratcheting tool, they are not intended to break loose seized or stubborn nuts and bolts. Use a socket and breaker bar or a solid box end wrench when high torque is needed. Great tool, but loses a star for two reasons. It is not possible to disassemble for periodic cleaning and lubrication, and the wrench is manufactured overseas rather than in the United States. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any fine tooth reversible ratcheting wrenches that are made domestically.
