Product works great! Was able to send a message home when we were in a remote location riding backcountry

I found it to be quirky, slow, and a little hard to learn. It works fine for a GPS but you can do the same thing with your phone. Would not purchase again.

I was cautious about this purchase due to the MANY complaints about the lousy screen brightness. On the contrary, out in the field while riding my horse I find that the screen is VERY readable. In fact, I normally have the backlight turned off to save battery life. Out in the open, in full sunlight, the 700's screen is BRIGHTER than my Garmin Montana 680t with its backlight turned all the way up. So no complaints there. I love the big screen size as well, making navigation so much easier than any of their prior handhelds. I bought the 700 specifically so I could use AA batteries as I take up to 7 day-long pack trips and need to add "juice" in the field without a solar charger or large, external battery bank. However, I have been delighted with the supplied battery pack as it gives me 3 or 4 days of use over 7-14 miles each day with the backlight off and put into battery saving mode. Still, I check this puppy every few minutes sometimes when off-trail and the battery life really holds up, even after a few months of use. On the downside, it takes some getting used to the newer interface, the physical layout of the antenna vs. the power button, and I miss the ability to customize the home screen to my liking. The additional AA adapter was WAY too expensive given that most of it is plastic, and additional Garmin rechargeable batteries are REALLY expensive! And USB 2 ??? C'mon Garmin! I also have found it hard to connect with my older Montana via Bluetooth. It usually flat out will not connect. I am also having issues with the touch performance of the screen as well as the power button. Caveat: I installed a glass screen protector as well as a rubberized case—both of which may be interfering with the controls. But sometimes, case or no case the only way I can get it to shut down is by yanking the battery pack. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, and not only because I got it on sale through Amazon Warehouse. The times I reach for my old Montana 680t I think to myself, "My, how quaint!" So there's no looking back for me.

Great unit, but all included items were for another unit, they didn’t fit. I had to return all the add ons. Unit is awesome.

So far it is working as it is supposed to work. Having no issues sending or receiving messages. I bought it to take with me when I work for the summer season in Glacier National Park where there is limited to no cell service. This will allow me to keep in touch with husband, family and friends. It is slower than messages on a cell phone but messages to cell phones and emails are going out and I am receiving replies.
