I initially purchased these compression shorts in white for my daughter to wear under her soccer uniform, which is also white and showed her underwear through it. She normally wears a Youth Large at 5'2", 105 lbs - athletic build (26"-27" waist) so I went with the YL in these as well. They definitely fit as compression shorts should - tight. She thought they were comfortable and liked them so much that I got a second short in black for her other uniform. Definitely a great value as compared to some of the higher end brands normally found in your local big box sports retailer for double the price!One detail to note is that this style has a single seam running up the back & front center, which is generally more typical on girls clothing. I mention this because it might be a slightly uncomfortable fit for boys which normally have the double seam, front pouch for crotch area.I'll update the functionality & durability after she wears for a few games.

My son is very thin and he's 11 years old and he claims that the small size is just too small and he also says they aren't that comfortable, but total honesty here; he's a bit of a princess.

I buy these for all of my 3 sons who love to play at the beach and in the surf but inevitably end up with significant chafing from the sand getting in between their bathing suit and their skin - especially painful with the salt water in contact with irritated skin. The tight fit under their suits keep the sand entry to a minimum and prevents the chafing. Recommend highly for all parents!!
