Needed to put a 1 1/8 steer fork on a tapered headset frame and this does the trick perfectly

For a gravel bike project, I needed to put an existing carbon cyclocross fork into a new frame. The fork has a 1-1/8 straight steerer and the frame is made for a 1-1/8 to 1-1/2 tapered fork. At first I tried a no-name Chinese conversion race, mostly because I could get it in one day. It was junk and didn’t fit any bearing that I could find. So I did what I should’ve done immediately and ordered a couple brand name parts.I had a few different 52mm lower bearings on hand — FSA, Cane Creek, and Chris King — so I could afford to get a couple different baseplates (or crown races, depending on your choice of terms) and see what worked best. I knew ahead of time that the Cane Creek and Chris King should be interchangeable. I ordered this FSA part and the equivalent piece — the 40-series steel baseplate — from Cane Creek.Bottom line? Both look solidly made. Assuming a correct match with your bearing, either will work. But the Cane Creek baseplate has a seal around the bottom of the bearing that the FSA part lacks. Maybe FSA has more faith in their bearing seals, but I would rather try to keep water and dirt from getting there on the first place. For my money, the Cane Creek looked to be a better option. One other editorial note: both the FSA and Cane Creek 40-series bearings felt smooth, but the FSA felt like it had less resistance. I don’t know if that’s by design or if Cane Creek just lubricates their bearings with a heavier grease. The Chris King bearing is the smoothest — which, at three times the cost, it should be.

This is what you need to use a straight 1 1/8 fork on a tapered head tube . Just make sure you have an FSA head set on so it will work flawlessly.
