My package showed up promptly, and everything was in perfect condition. I was impressed with the bench's thickness and weight; the finish was perfect for my application. The problem was in the assembly. The instructions were very clear as to how the parts were to be put together. However, my parts weren't even close to fitting together. Every one of them took a fair amount of pounding with a rubber mallet, and unfortunately, the leg split while I was trying to get the cross-brace put in. I had another leg start to split from the bottom up, so I stopped pounding and nothing on the entire bench got a good clean fit, as you can see in the picture. For this fundamental reason, I can not recommend this bench. If I were to do it over, I would recommend sanding down the flanges before trying to insert them into their stops, and then gluing the entire thing together with wood glue.

It's a very sturdy bench with scuffed up but heavy wood that is well stained. The main issue is there are no screws. I thought maybe that was OK because the parts are pretty stuck together when you use a mallet loudly. But you may need to do that outside somewhere. I was worried about damaging my floors with all the force I was using. Then, when I got everything set up, it worked fantastically for a few days, until I tried rocking my butt left and right, and the whole thing collapsed! Similarly to how the sides have a support bar, I think there may need to be a support bar underneath. Or maybe I didn't hammer the top on hard enough the first go-round. But I haven't gone through the effort to hammer this back together.

We really like this bench! It looks great as an entry way bench and after it is assembled it is really sturdy. I removed 1 star because I was unable to assemble it without removing more material from the holes to allow for the legs and cross pieces to actually fit together. The listing states that it is a tight fit, but I had to enlarge 1 of the holes by almost 1 millimeter and it was still a VERY tight fit. 1 Millimeter does not sound like much, but if you don't have any power tools then you need to use a regular knife or a sanding stick and it will take a considerable amount of time and effort. I used my rotary tool and the full assembly process took less than 20 minutes, including time to enlarge the holes. If the holes were sized correctly to begin with, the assembly would have taken less than 5 minutes.
