These bits are very durable. They stay sharp a long time and are great for those odd big sizes. I had to drill out lower control arms for my RV. The new arms had a smaller diameter than the old ones, so after boring out 8 cast holes, the 9/16 but is still pretty sharp. Great value for an entire set.

I only needed one bit, but the price was right to buy the whole set. I'm glad I did, because they worked great to drill the hole in tube steel that I needed. The case is sturdy and makes it easy to store and transport the bits. I expect to find more projects for these in the future. I'm not a pro and do not expect to work these bits hard, but they meet my needs exactly. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone who needs a set of large drill bits.

I paid $39 for this set.In brief: If you do this a lot, or want to drill something harder than mild steel, or need a nice cut quality, get something better. If you only occasionally make holes, and don't care too much about how they look, then this set is a good choice.I'm an amateur, but I have various drill bits all the way from harbor freight quality up to made in USA, machine shop quality cobalt bits, so I have some basis for comparison.These bits fall on the harbor freight quality side of the scale, but at this price, what did you really expect.What you get:The bits are not very nice. You can see grinding errors on some of the bits by eye. They come covered in a sticky anti-corrosion substance that doesn't even come off with denatured alcohol, and each bit is wrapped in a weird cellophane wrapper. The case is pretty decent for a cheap set, but a long shot from a proper metal case.How they perform:I made 8 holes in 1/4" mild steel with one of the bits, for a total of 2" (with pre-drilling with a smaller bit). The bit survived without chips or damage and still cuts "like new" (which isn't that awesome for this bit, but it didn't lose sharpness). It chatters and gets hot, but it cuts quickly and aggressively. The cut quality is not great. Good enough for something you don't see, but if the holes are visible you probably want something better.Am I satisfied?As I mentioned earlier, I paid $39 for 8 bits and a case. That's less than $5 per bit. A good quality set with the same sizes runs over $200, more if you want cobalt or TiN coating. I think I got my money's worth, and given that I only make larger holes very rarely, and that they seem to hold up, I can't complain.If you do this a lot, or want to drill something harder than mild steel, or need a nice cut quality, or want a nice metal drill index, or care where things are made, look elsewhere.If on the other hand you only use this to make a couple of holes a year, never do anything harder than mild steel, and your holes aren't seen, and don't mind having an ugly tool, go ahead.

The reason for only 4 stars is I haven't used them much yet. I had no problem drilling a1" hole with a 3/16 pilot hole in 3/4" mild steel flat bar at around 200 RPM using lots of cutting oil. For my occasional use only needs which doesn't warrant spending $100's of dollars more for a professional grade set I am sure they will be just fine. Just make sure your drill press has the capacity and slow speeds required to handle the larger sized bits.

When I received the bits I was impressed by the quality. The case was a nice touch. I was looking for inexpensive bits in this general size range. I am working on a car that is really a resto-mod 1965 El Camino. I am fabricating a four link rear setup using factory mounting points. I didn't buy ready made trailing arms, but designed these to be fitted with larger grade 8 bolts. I hoped that the drill bits would last for the drilling operations for this project. I drilled several holes in various steel plates for tapping threads. I am impressed at the ease with which these bits cut through, leaving well finished surfaces to tap. After several uses, these bits seem to work like new and will not need replacing, or sharpening any time soon.I nearly spent three or four times more for "name brand" bits, but I am really glad that I didn't. I don't drill holes for a living or have to meet deadlines, so for me these seem like top drawer stuff!I appreciate the card that I found in this set of bits, seems like this is a company who is intending to make a splash in the metal working industry!Thank you so much for engineering quality into your tools!
