The item is pretty easy to use, intended to measure the thickness of certain hard materials and some small outside dimensions (like small pipes). It cannot be used on soft materials because it will compress them and give a false reading. Calibrating the device is a bit annoying as it requires some light disassembly of the unit to make the counter match the slider and then put it back together and pray the parts did not move while re-assembling it because you'll need to go back and re-calibrate it.

This micrometer is quality built. It has a high degree of accuracy, with both a mechanical digital counter along with a "old school" vernier scale displays measurements in inches for precise measurements. The tips are hardened steel for super accurate readings and repeatablity. Note that this micrometer feels good in the hand, though it is on the heavier side, which help to maintain accuracy over time. It comes in a very nice case, along with a zero point adjusting wrench.
