The trailer hitch was for a 2011 Chevrolet Impala and will be used to hold a bicycle carry rack. It fit as intended and took 45 minutes to install by myself; the car was sitting on a concrete garage floor rather being jacked up or on a lift. The hitch was well made, there were no sharp edges, and the powder coat finish seems to provide a good covering. The receiver end of the hitch sits back under the rear bumper which eliminates potential leg damage when walking around the car. The center of the receiver sits 12.5" off of the ground.I placed a wooden block under the converter leaving about 4" clearance and removed the two bolts holding the support bracket to the frame. The converter only dropped down about 2". Next, on the plain end of the supplied wire guide I bent a 1" 90 degree angle to help the wire come out of the bolt hole and slightly bent a curve in the remaining length of wire. All of the backing plates and bolts were pulled into place. The rear frame rail on the car had 4 bolt holes in it; in my application I measured the hitch and used the outside holes. At this point I placed the hitch under the car, lifted the right side of the hitch up and placed it on top of the converter which provided a support. The left side of the hitch was raised up (by hand), shifted around until the bolts/holes lined up and the two side nuts were started. I raised the rear of the hitch until the two rear bolts/holes lined up and started the left nut. When I pressed the right side of the hitch up to start the right rear nut the remaining two side bolts dropped through the holes and the right rear bolt was snugged up. I moved over to the outside edge of the converter, pulled it down (to provide adequate clearance) and started the remaining two bolts. To finish the job off I tightened up all of the hitch bolts and re-installed the converter support bracket. Viola! The hitch was installed in 45 minutes, which included getting out and putting up all of the tools.

Well built hitch, fit my '08 Impala perfectly & is working great (for a bike rack). Read the instructions very carefully & plan your steps well before installing. Once you loose control of a bolt inside the car frame, you won't get it back. The big problem was the need to have ALL the mounting bolts in place before placing the hitch, since the hitch covers up the car frame insertion holes. The instructions did not cover this & they provide only one "threading wire tool" to place & hold bolts. I fashioned extras from small diameter iron wire (small enough diameter wire to fit through the mounting hole while the wire is wrapped around the bolt). I left the threading wires in place to be able to manipulate the bolts (side bar mention in the instructions) & that was critical to success.Instructions on disconnecting the muffler are fuzzy, but all you have to do is disconnect the two hanger straps & set the muffler on the driveway. I used a bottle jack to hold up my muffler while disconnecting (& reconnecting) & again to raise & position the hitch (balanced the hitch on the jack). Once all problems were solved, it took about an hour for me to install in my driveway.

Absolutely the most useful thing I have ever purchased for my car. I drive a 2008 Chevrolet Impala and I wanted to put a bike rack on it without mounting it to my trunk. I bought this hitch and a hitch mounted bike rack and all I can say is that the quality of this item is unbelievable. Strong, sturdy, safe, affordable, and SO EASY TO INSTALL. Took me a half hour to put this thing on my car and I have no doubt that it is on there well. You need one tool that is not provided which is a torque wrench. This is very important to have because it needs to be torqued to 110lbs which is just another look at how well this hitch attaches to the vehicle. The directions are easy to follow and I could not be happier with this purchase. It can handle 3500lbs towing and 1000lbs on the tongue which is about the same as the factory hitches on small SUV's and pick up trucks. I love the options I have now that I got a hitch installed. Very inconspicuous too. This thing will not make the back of your car look any different!

I am installing this hitch onto a 2002 Chevy Impala. After unboxing and looking over the trailer hitch I was impressed by the over all quality. Very heavy duty....nice. I was equally impressed at how easy it was to install. The spring cable thingy was pretty cool and made aligning the bolts into the holes very easy. I then had my son help me lift it in place and fasten the hitch in place, we got all the nuts on and hand tightened them before we noticed the hitch hit on the cross member preventing it to mount flush and tight. BAD DESIGN!! if they would have cut it away another 3/8 inch, it would have fit perfectly. BUT they didn't so we had to mark where we needed to grind it, take all the nuts off, lower the hitch and grind a 3/8 inch deep, 2 1/2 inch notch on each side with my hand angle grinder and repaint the exposed steel so it wouldn't rust as quick. We then lifted it back in place, reinstalled the nuts, torqued them to 110 lbs. and whaa-la! done. after looking back at it , it really wasn't that big of a deal but it really ticked me off at the time. it turned a 30 minute installation into a 1 1/2 hr. installation. I mean, Who designs these things? Does anyone install one to make sure they fit the year vehicle they say they are for? What if someone didn't have the tools to alter it or didn't notice it and tightened the hitch that way ? I think that could be dangerous, don't you think? BUT all that being said it still was a MUCH better value than I could find anywhere else. right before ordering this hitch, I went to a local tire shop and they quoted me a hitch installed for $379.00, I paid $143.00 and had to grind on it a little but saved $236.00. plus this hitch came with the ball mount and pin. So over all I am pleased with that, I guess.
