As someone with a mother who loves to cook and will soon to be a grandmother, I thought this was a great gift. The craftsmanship on this item is great and is as described, with what looks like laser engraving on the wood. The only issue is with the part that makes it stand seems like it would be a little wobbly so may be best to have up against something sturdy like a wall or appliance. The acrylic cover is a great touch for people who don't want to accidently splash thier books or electrionics while in use. I enjoy the fact that this is a functional piece of homedecor, looks great on its own and even better when its put into good use.

I keep my recipes in a 3 ring binder, and my binder JUST barely fits the depth of the ledge. I wish it were a little deeper - or maybe I will have to divide into 2 smaller binders. The plexiglass does a good job of protecting the pages. The instructions say that it can be adjusted to any angle. Maybe - if you put the holder on a silicone mat or maybe a cutting board. On my Formica countertop it slides to the widest open position no matter how I try to adjust it. This is only an annoyance for me because it takes up more room on my work surface than I would like, but I might try putting a silicone bumper button on the bottom of the two edges that touch the counter and see if that helps.

This is made out of nice bamboo material with good craftsmanship. Surface is heat treated and smooth with no splinter. The only downside is the back stand is not adjustable. It's either upright or all the way back as the back stand can only stay in the fully extended position.
