I'm building an outdoor pen/run for our new ducks, and I want to make sure that the hardware I use is going to stand up to the environment and the pressure-treated wood. I got these hinges for the "human door" that will lead into the run, but I almost feel guilty putting them out there. These are more suited to the classic mahogany runabout boat that I've been working on for years. The finish is beautiful (on the front; the back isn't terribly rough, but certainly not polished). The screws are flat-head Phillips, about 1-1.25" long. The hinges aren't quite 8"; they're more like 7 3/4" but that's fine for my purposes. The hinge pins are fully captive -- the barrel is completely closed off on both ends, and you can't even see a line between the barrel and the pin. There is a little play in the movement of the hinges, so depending on how you mount them, you could get a little bit of rattling -- say, in a high-vibration environment like a motorboat. My original plan was to build a simple, single door and put these at the top & bottom, although a third hinge in the middle would have been ideal. Now I think I'm going to make a Dutch door (split across the middle where the top can open separately), so four hinges are called for. Looks like I'll be buying another pair of these.
