Notice:

  • Stainless steel can experience a phenomenon known as "burning," resulting in a brown discoloration when it reaches high temperatures for various reasons, such as being heated on high heat while empty or with very little content. This is not a chemical change; it is simply a discoloration.
  • This kettle is dishwasher safe.
  • How can I remove the water stains on the inside? - Water stains are alkaline in nature. To remove them, acidic substances like citric acid or vinegar are effective. Using citric acid, soak the inside of the kettle overnight in a citric acid solution to loosen the stains, making them easier to scrub off with a sponge.
  • Can it be used with an IH heater? - No, it cannot be used with an IH heater because it is made of stainless steel 304, which contains nickel.
  • What should I do if it rusts? - Even stainless steel can develop rust if the passive oxide layer is damaged, causing iron to oxidize and appear red. This is a characteristic oxidation phenomenon of stainless steel. To remove the rust, scrub the affected area with a metal scrubber, rinse it with water, and dry it thoroughly. This will help restore the passive layer and prevent further corrosion.

Note: Stainless steel can rust in wet conditions, especially in environments with salt or chlorine, so be sure to store it clean and dry.

Recently, I purchased an MSR pika at REI for $40 + tax. It’s ultralight and has a plastic lid. Though I dig the ultralight part for long-haul backpacking excursions, I have an extreme dislike of plastic anything. This teapot is slightly heavier but is ALL stainless steel including the lid and appears to have an opening large enough to stow a fuel canister (much like the msr pika). It comes in a nice little mesh bag and has measurements stamped into the metal on the side. The top line for filling purposes is 200ml (.6 L).I expect the handle and pot top will get very hot when placed over heat but as is the case with any metal cook wear, exercise caution and don’t grab barehanded. At $10 cheaper than the MSR teapot, if you’re not an ounce-counter, this is a really nice pot and will serve you well. It will boil plenty of water to rehydrate a meal and tea/coffee for two. Great value!

I actually really like this kettle, it seems it was thought through in terms of design fairly well. The lid fits nice and tight, and the build quality seems very nice. The numbers for filling to a certain measured level inside are stamped and clearly distinguishable. The handle is also tight and can stand straight up.My only two issues with it are these. One is that it has no whistle or ability to tell when water inside is boiling. I know it would add complexity so they likely skipped it on purpose, but some British tea kettles manage to achieve this function with just a crimp in the right spot and that would be ideal. The other is that the handle can get REALLY hot. I would likely leave it standing straight up when heating to keep it as far away from the heat source as possible. I might wrap this in paracord to avoid potential burns.
