I put an ink cartridge in one of these pens and put the cap on and waited as the instructions said for about an hour to try it. When I opened the cap ink poured everywhere. I thought maybe just one of the pens was bad so I tried another. Same result. Ink gushed right through the nib. Didn't dare try another.

This is an excellent set. It comes with so many different nibs and all the refills you'll ever need.The pens and nibs are well made, and the ink is good quality as well.

A good value for a beginner in calligraphy or arts & crafts. Has a nice selection of most useful pen tips for a beginner. Chisel tips range from 1.1mm to 2.9 mm in small increments. Extra Fine 0.38mm and 0.7 mm are for out lining or normal writing. Brush tip is small, a good choice for blending calligraphy letters. Brush tip should be soaked in water to soften before first use, and washed and dried when storing for a while. Includes 60 cartridges in various colors. Ink seems to be on watery side, better for art than writing. You can use the included converter to use fountain pen inks, for writing. Flow and nib tip are good. Not comparable to expensive individual pens, but very good for beginner calligraphy and arts & crafts.

I love fountain pens and I was drawn to this set because of that. I have looked at other calligraphy sets and have some basis for comparison. This one isn't bad; it's a decent starter set.This is a fairly complete kit, with 8 different pens and a large number of ink cartridges. The different pens each have a different nib installed, starting with an EF nib and progressing through several broad and stub sizes. There is no nib in this set that I would call an M, and that's all right unless you really need one.The pens are nothing special. They're plastic and lightweight, not made for longevity but sufficient. The nibs are ok but some of them might require a little tuning or alignment. Check each before you install any ink cartridges or fill one of the converters.For the cost, this set is very reasonable. It's a good starter kit for a beginner wanting to get into calligraphy, though someone who is already established is likely to want a more substantial kit or a dedicated flex nib pen. There's a good variety of ink colors in the pre-filled cartridges, and the converters allow for using any fountain pen ink you might want to use.This is a decent starter kit at a reasonable asking price. It's well-suited for a beginner and has everything needed to get started.

This is a very nice beginner set of fountain/calligraphy pens. I like that you get 8 different pens and 8 different nibs, along with 60 different ink cartridges plus 8 converters--there's a lot that comes in this set! I've used fountain pens in the past, and while these aren't the best quality pens, they're great for a beginner that is attempting to learn how to use them.I wish there had been some type of writing instruction manual included--yes, I know you can search on YouTube, but if you're trying to trace letters it's difficult to do that over your TV or computer screen. The next step is probably going to be to buy a lettering workbook of some kind, as I learn better with physical books/workbooks in front of me to see pen angles and how the letter should look. Even just a smaller sheet with one side having the alphabet in upper case and the other side with lower case letters, so that beginners could have it to laminate and have in front of them would have been a great addition.

This is a cute little calligraphy set that comes with everything someone would need to get started right away. In the package, you get eight different pens with non-removable nibs, eight converters if you'd like to use your own fountain pen ink, and two boxes full of ink cartridges. While there are no instructions on cartridge installation or calligraphic styles, that type of information can be found online for free quite easily.Each plastic pen feels a little on the cheaper side as far as construction is concerned. They're coated with some type of rubberized material to give them extra grip. I have a couple pens with spots on their body, and there's a raw area underneath every clip. One of my blue pens also has a misaligned feed. Build quality could definitely be better! Thankfully, these issues are mostly just cosmetic and don't seem to interfere with anything. Personally, I feel more relaxed using less expensive pens, so it could be a blessing in disguise to have something you're not afraid to damage.When installing a cartridge, you have to make sure you press down hard--I was waiting for ink to flow on a couple of these pens without realizing they weren't properly punctured. There's a bit of a learning curve to each nib, but all of mine seem to function as expected with a little effort. I found the sky blue ink cartridge inside the 1.5mm nib pen to be particularly pleasing on Sakae Iroful paper.At $25.59 at the time of review, I can definitely recommend this set for the price. A pack of Jinhao X750s goes for around the same amount of money, but you wouldn't get all the ink cartridges and nib variety you find here.
