The Cable Matters 8K DisplayPort extension cable is the perfect way to extend the limits of virtual reality. Boost your VR headset’s cable length for a more immersive experience, or route the extension cable to relocate a playspace away from other objects. The extension cable also works on the latest 8K monitors for distant monitor placement.

Important Notes

  • This active extension cable is NOT compatible with DisplayPort to HDMI, DVI, or VGA converter cables
  • This Cable is unidirectional. The Male DisplayPort connector MUST be connected to a computer, and the female connector MUST be connected to another DisplayPort cable or a VR headset cable
  • Oculus Rift S will not initiate the DisplayPort connection if USB 3.0 does not work. Make sure your USB 3.0 port/cable is working properly before adding this DisplayPort cable.
  • Not Compatible with HP Reverb G2 VR Headset

I purchased this DP extension cable for use with my Pimax 5k super VR headset, but it does not work. I can only guess as to why, but I believe it’s due to this cable drawing power directly from the DisplayPort instead of having an external power source, which the Pimax does not like. Although, This cable works fine with my Valve Index VR headset, so I’m still giving this item 4-stars… I am waiting for a DP Amplifier/Repeater to arrive to use for the Pimax, hopefully that’ll do the trick!.

Like other people have noted, this cable did not work with the HP Reverb G2. Somewhat surprising, unless there is something in the circuitry that is crossing up the signal path.Interestingly, "Cable Matters" does have a regular DP 1.4 cable that DOES work, and there are other cables that also DO work with the G2 as I purchased them all and confirmed functionality:SKU: B0B156D5DV , Kework 2ft DisplayPort 8K Extension Cable, 90 Degree Down Angle DisplayPortSKU: B00L1K1C3M , Cable Matters DisplayPort to DisplayPort Extension Cable (DP to DP Extension Cable) 3 FeetSKU: B08JV6QZSJ , DGHUMEN 8K DisplayPort Extension Cable 5Feet, DisplayPort 1.4 (Both the 3ft and 5ft cable)

I'd bought a different cable and it didn't work well. It made areas with RGB dots appear all over and after like two minutes it just distorted the image entirely and stopped working. This cable worked perfectly well, same distance, same graphics card. Didn't even need the signal repeater I bought for it. Do get it if you want to play VR away from your PC.

My PC is in a different room from where I set up my Valve Index and I was sick of having to tear down my PC and move it every time I wanted to play VR. I bought this to be able to run a cable from where my PC lives to the room with the Index and it works great. Image quality and signal look just as good as not using it so I really can't say anything bad about it.

Wow, it actually works with the valve Index VR headset, just like that. using it together with the 5m USB active extension cable from cable matters as well.

I have 2 computers and one monitor which only has one display port. This saves the wear and tear of unplugging and plugging the cable from the monitor itself which could wear out the monitor port. This does need to be configured unidirectional, the USB-C end goes into the computer (a Mac in this case which doesn't have a display port), the female display port end then uses a standard display port cable from there to the monitor.Using with a 49" ultra-wide, 5120 x 1440 res with no issues.

Works great! Easily have extended DisplayPort past 5 meters and no dramas pushing 4k at 120Hz. No issues even with a KVM - very happy.

Having trouble believing that this cable is somehow "active" when it contains no external power input. In fact, it wastes power coming from the source device to light up a pointless blue LED on the female end. I'm no expert, but this seems completely counterproductive to me to waste power on this for something that's supposed to prevent signal loss over long cable runs? Where does the power required to produce the repeated signal come from? Secret space satellites? Pixies? Or am I supposed to duct tape a potato battery to the outside? In any event, absolutely no video signal comes out of the other end of this thing. It simply does not work. Video signal goes in, video signal does not come out. It doesn't matter what I plug into it -- my VR headset or multiple DisplayPort capable monitors, all of which work just fine when plugged straight into the same ports I tried using this thing on. All of them report "no connection" when this cable is in between. What a complete waste of time.

Most VR setups or long distance runs for displays are heavily restricted by the length of the DP cable. Most cables on the market are passive cables that cause heavy degradation across distances as short as even 3 feet.I purchased 2 cables. A 6 foot male to female DP cable that had high ratings (passive), and this cable (active) shortly after. The 6 foot cable "worked", but I was constantly seeing artifacts in my VR. It almost looked like the individual pixels would sometimes blink at random intervals with different colors. It wasn't horrible, but really took away from the experience.I decided to try this cable. At 25 feet, I was highly skeptical, but thought if it's active, then it might be worth a try. This cable not only worked, but far exceeded by expectations. No more visual artifacts or any random video flashing. The picture is just as good as using the original cable plugged into the DP port of the graphics card.I can't speak to all HMD's, but it worked perfectly with my Valve Index. After a USB extension and power cable extension, I added 25 additional feet to the original 15 which is pretty ridiculous.Save your self the money of a fiber optic DP cable. This will do as good of a job as the ones that costs 3x more that are fiber. Unless you have distance needs that far exceed 25 feet, this cable will do it all and keep the high refresh rates. The cost difference is so little between the shorter version and this longer one, so I would suggest getting the longer one just in case. You really don't have to worry about distance degradation.
