B+W 49mm MASTER High Transmission MRC Kaesemann Circular Polarizer Filter, with a rotating mount to control the polarization effect. The Circular Polarizer will work with all auto-focus lenses, and reduces reflections from a non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, and glossy paint and increases color saturation and contrast. Objects behind shop windows or car windshields can become visible again. The multiplying factor with the HTC Filter is 2 to 3, which is equivalent to 1 to 1.5 f-stops, compared to other polarizers up to 3 stops, giving you better light transmission.

The filter is rotatable to achieve the desired degree of "polarized blocking".You can rotate it with the lightest touch of a single finger - the front glides/rotates very easily. The filter is very directional - the rotatable side needs to face the light.Have it the other way around and the polarization blocking is negligible. That may sound "flipping obvious", but I'm using my 49mm filter for astronomy purposes inside a "filter cell holder". I can insert it either way around but only one way actually works. This is probably about as high a transmission you can get without paying silly money. You'd expect lower transmission at maximum polarizing blocking. You'd expect higher transmission at minimal blocking. The filter obviously has a very slight "ND" aspect to it by default, but it's negligible compared to some others. What I like about this filter is that non polarized objects do not darken at all as the filter is rotated. Only the glare from polarized surfaces changes.A top notch filter from a very well respected brand.

Great quality, and love the sleeve it comes with. The quality is unmatched. Definitely worth the price.

Purchased for a Leica Q3, whose lens has a 49mm filter thread.Despite doing photography for donkeys years and video for decades, it is only recently that I have discovered the genuine joy of Circular Polarisers. Their ability to either cut or enhance reflections on surfaces such as windows, water and pretty much anything that reflects light, is really quite astonishing. By simply turning the filter slowly (it's designed to turn), you can often significantly change the both reflections and contrast in a scene with ease. This particular B+W filter is beautifully built and is supplied with a small very nicely constructed 'leather type' pouch for storage.Compared to a cheaper Hoya filter, this is considerably brighter in transparency, but it still removes reflections exceptionally well. Because of its density it doesn't impinge on exposure in lower light and the filter's thickness is nicely thin. It's downside and this is the same with all Circular Polarisers, is that you need to remove the camera's lens hood in order to adjust the filter and when once adjusted, replace the lens hood. This slows down the speed of picture taking, but for the kind of shots where you likely want to have the ability to control reflections, then this possibly is not an issue.I'm giving very serious thought as to using this as my default filter, rather than Leica's UV filter.

All optics can use an extra measure of protection from scratches, bumps and dings. Small price to pay for this type of lens protector. Highly recommend for cameras, rifle scopes and other expensive optics.

I always turn to B+W for my filter needs and this one does not disappoint! What more can you ask for from a filter than provide the desired effect without getting in the way? This filter delivers the goods! If you’re looking for a quality filter, look no further than B+W! Your portfolio will thank you!

I’ve only had it a week, but it seems to be working well. I haven’t noticed any ghosting or other visual artifacts from it. It does drop the exposure by around one and a half stops, but any polarizer will do that. The rotating action is smooth and it is quite compact which I appreciate. My only gripe is that the pouch it comes in isn’t lint free so I had to clean the filter before use. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, just inconvenient.I’m using this on my Leica Q2 and it fits great. It can even be used with the hood on, though rotating the filter can be awkward, and macro mode will not fully engage.
