The Brown & Sharpe 599-673-20 is complete set of six adjustable parallels in sizes ranging from 3/8 (10 mm) to 2-1/4 (57 mm). The instruments are made of steel for increased durability, and have a versatile range, which eliminates the need for stocking multiple solid parallels. Each parallel consists of two tapered parts that are dovetailed together. The distance between the two outside parallel surfaces can be varied by moving the parts together or apart. They can be quickly adjusted to desired size using a micrometer, and clamp screws lock parallels to size.
Adjustable parallels are used for checking, marking, or positioning work. They can also be used to measure inside dimensions of recesses or slots, or for setting tools.
Brown & Sharpe manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools. The company, founded in 1833, played a key role in setting industrial standards in the United States. Brown & Sharpe was acquired by Hexagon Metrology in 2001 and is headquartered in North Kingstown, RI.

The parallels are nice, smoth sliding, all were between 2 to 6 tenths out. I guess that's the norm.I don't like the small socket head screws, I can't find a hex key that fits well. A 2.5mm fits some better than the 3/32 they suggest.It seems to take alot of torque to stop them from moving.

Outstanding parallels, but before first use they need to be taken apart and cleaned. The sliding surfaces had grinding dust in them. The outside was very well protected from rust with both a spray corrosion inhibitor like Cosmoline and VCI paper. A little disappointed in the grinding dust and the lack of the old school Brown and Sharpe box. Really small dings because once cleaned the parallels are of outstanding quality. I wish I could have given them 4.5 stars.

I had very high hopes for these parallels but unfortunately those were dashed. Once they arrived I began unpacking them and measuring each across their width set at a couple of different lengths. The two largest sizes were excellent and within .0005" across. When I unwrapped the third largest I immediately knew there was going to be a problem. There was an visible gap at one end of the sliding contact seam and it wouldn't close when the screws were snugged down. Even when I cleaned the edges and set to its nominal position, the width varied .002" end to end over its 3.5" length. Unacceptable for parallels of this expected caliber and cost. At that point I stopped measuring and packed the set back up. I am giving them another chance and have asked for a replacement rather than a refund. I will update this review once the new set arrives next week.**UPDATE** The second set arrived yesterday and I was able to sit down and measure the parallel tolerance of these bars today. I unwrapped, disassembled and cleaned, oiled with way oil and reassembled each bar before testing them. The second smallest bar had a significant chip taken out of the dovetail, and while ugly as hell, didn't appear to affect the bar's parallelism. The exterior machining looked about average with defects across all the bars, the dovetail machining was on the sloppy side but didn't appear to affect the bars' performance. Each of the bars measured within .0008" across their length in several positions (the second largest was the most out) and the smallest two (including the chipped one) measured better than .0004", mainly due to their much shorter length. While I am pleased they will perform as expected, and prefer the allen screws over the flat bladed ones used by Starrett, I am disappointed about the obvious substandard machining and spotty quality control. I certainly wouldn't consider them a bargain.

They actually had some rust on them when i got it new but nothing that bad. With the bag they come in is kinda difficult to get some of the smaller ones out with out dumping the rest but other than that they work good
