Bought a few of these thinking I'd end up breaking one or two during my project. Had no issues, just needed one.

I repair acoustic guitars and have found that, depending on make, acoustics generally need neck resets approximately 15-25 years after manufacture, due to string tension. Depending on neck joint type, some makes are easier to repair, but where dovetail joints are involved, two holes have to be drilled through the fretboard extension at either the 14th or 15th fret, depending on scale length. Air pockets between body and neck usually exist at these points, and holes have to be fairly deep, necessitating 1/8th bits longer that standard. Steam or heat-sticks are usually used for this in order to soften glue for the removal of the joint, (See Photo). This quality bit has been great and is robust.

I used these bits to drill pilot holes through a couple of replacement hand-plane totes, to guide me in using a larger (but shorter) auger bit to drill the final through-holes from each end. They are sharp, and worked fine, but I was careless and snapped one bit. I was lucky that a part of the broken bit was sticking out a quarter-inch, so I could use locking pliers to pull it out, or I'd have ruined a nice cocobolo blank. There is nothing wrong with these bits -- they are just long and thin. I should have kept that in mind.

When using pocket hole jigs, drilling an extended pilot hold for the screw greatly reduces the chances of splitting. This is perfect for the job.

The first thing I did was check the bits for straightness, and they were dead straight. A hint for using these bits is to drill a little, then back out the bit to allow the chips to be ejected from the hole. Don't just ram the bit into the wood in an effort to get the the job done. Take your time.I plan on ordering more of these bits in various sizes.

It was exactly what I needed to drill starter holes for screws through four 3/4" pieces of plywood at once. I would buy it again!

I used this on a special project and it was good and did not break. Super long.

I bought a bunch of cheaper 1/8" 6" long bits and one of these expensive Bosch long 1/8" bits as part of my prep for a bathroom renovation involving a walk-in shower that would require a lot of framing. I prefer construction screws to nailing and prefer to pre-drill as it reduces splitting and makes driving "toe-nailed" screws much easier. The Bosch plowed through maybe 150 screws before I dropped the drill and bent the bit. OoopsSo it was over to the cheaper bits. They worked, but strangely just not as well as the Bosch. They seem to load up with dust faster and get dull pretty quickly. Bottom line, when I run through my cheap bits, I'll stock up with more of the pricier Bosch bits. And, I'll try to be more careful about how put down the drill so I don't drop it and prematurely end the useful life of these good bits.
