This unit allows you to get rid of the archaic power assist system on early mustangs, cougars, etc.If you don't have the money to convert to the later style power assist steering that has the control valve, etc., in the steering gear, this will get you by. A plus is that it is also part of the Borgeson upgrade to early mustangs and Cougars that are factory power steering.One word of caution, early Mustangs and Cougars that are factory power steering come with a 16:1 gear and manual cars a 14:1 gear. What's this mean? When you convert to manual from power, the effort will be great than a factory manual steering car do don't go too small with steering wheel diameter, or too wide with your front tires. Otherwise, expect an upper body workout everytime you drive.

Nice to find a car part that wasn't made overseas. Works with my 1976 Ford Granada's factory steering system, replacing the awful steer assist. Handles much better!
