The pictures are just showing its Togens kit. It’s a fine value for materials. The hooks, beads, flash seem just fine. The marabou is okay. The hackle is yet to be desired. The red uni thread is just fine which is great cause I had too use it to tie the black wooly bugger after the black UTC 70 broke 5 times, yes 5 times while tying it. I’ve tied for just over 11 years but didn’t have any problems with thread like this. At least w this pattern the thread is mostly hidden. I would never ask a business to reimburse or pay the shipping cost for such a small thing. It’s not hard to run to the local fly shop and get a fresh spool. The fly turned out just fine. I’ll leave a comment on the next 4 out of this beginner kit. The head cement doesn’t seem to dry very fast. I just finished the Rainbow Warrior and turned out great. Some materials I’m still having a bit of trouble with. Each strand of krinkle is one solid color not rainbow as he described in his tutorial. Just be careful w it because it’s a bit fragile. I would recommend using the original material on the warrior if you want the original look. The tutorials are great but some materials were substituted but that’s fine, that’s original and very cool but sticking to the recipe for us beginners is a must and then go from there. They should explain how to capture the material. A dubbing brush will finish this fly very nicely and give it that “bug” finished look. Kit doesn’t come w a dubbing brush but Velcro works great for this. Watch every video you can, this will help you so you get all the tips and tricks to keep from frustration. This hobby can test the best w this. I was going to tie the next fly, “prince nymph” but I’ve had to deviate from the kit not just the material but the whip finish tool was really catchy on the thread so I can’t say I’m using all of this kit. Wouldn’t purchase again…… they were nice enough to give me a discount on future purchases. But why would a person want bad materials, fly shops aren’t going to pluck out the primo stuff for these kits. So if a person can, “even if it costs a bit more” go to the fly shop and pick your own materials out. If you are just starting out you need to have the right tools for the job, right? So get the right tools. If you’re a total beginner? You do not want to get stuff that’s going discourage you. This has done that to me and a person just starting out doesn’t want this at all.

It’s a great kit to learn to tie with. You get a bunch of starter materials and the videos on togens website to show you how to tie them are super easy to follow! Very happy with it and the amount of flies you can make! I only received 25 #14 hooks though so I’m not sure if it was a miscount or if they changed the quantity and not the description. But the tools and materials are all very high quality!
