I bought the system probably 8 or so years ago and have not changed the batteries until now. One battery finally died and that unit would not work at all. A second unit developed some problems that I did not associate with the batteries but I decided to replace all the batteries and use the ones that were still functioning. To my surprise replacing the batteries fixed all issues. I now have four good active handheld units.

The price was very good. I can't comment on longevity or battery life because I haven't had them long enough, but so far, all's well.
