I wanted a viewer to sort through slides to determine which were worth digitizing. For this purpose, it would be best to have more magnification. Over all the items works well and will help in sorting slides. The bulb is the incandescent type which might be hard to replace. I would have expected LED in a new item.

I have several thousand slides of pictures taken over 20 years until prints became more economical. I, like most, am now using digital. But what to do about the slides? I was sure family members would want to have some but not all. So I went on-line and bought this slide viewer. I had one similar to this years ago but could not find it. I also have a slide projector but this was also inconvenient for the task at hand. This, I found, is the fastest way to sort through slides. Easy to use and sturdy.

This slide viewer ultimately works well, but I had some trouble figuring out how to replace the batteries. The enclosed directions had small print and were hard to understand. After looking on YouTube I was able to put new ones in.

after reading several reviews, I bought the adapter for the pana-vue. I have several thousand slides I am previewing, sorting, and discarding in anticipation of digitizing several hundred select slides. My slides are contained in 10 filled Kodak carousels, Metal storage trays from the 1980s, and many cardboard mailer boxes. I set up an assembly line of sorts on a long table. First, I fan out as many slides I can fit on a light box. I’m able to determine right away which ones to discard. for example, 1973 the Grand Canyon carousel box. Using the lightbox, I discarded very quickly 120+ angles of the canyon and beyond ...lol... i kept about 20 or so photos of my late husband and me.With the previewer, I chose the best of those photos to get digitized. I’m able to see expressions on faces, closed eyes etc.I would not want to use the viewer for thousands of slides!I was concerned about the jamming mentioned in several reviews because I have arthritic hands, but I’ve learned to get along with the previewer, minimizing the number of slides that get jammed. The box in which it came looked old, so right away I was concerned that it was a used product and would need to return it. Not so, it works well.I would say this is good value for what it is accomplishing. looking at all these sides is an arduous But important project for the family

Apparently the panda-view did not include a power cord, even a new one does not. I rated it quite low but upon advise and reflection, I probably should have made sure there one inj sale. I therefore change my view of the product to three stars only because of the lack of power cord.

Had one of these in the 80’s but it finally gave out in the 2000’s. Didn’t find anything else on the market that goes thru a stack of slides quickly for sorting lots of slides. Lights up, & enlarges it for easy editing. Its plastic though & not as well made as the one from the 80’s. Pieces of plastic get on the screen but its easy to wipe off. It works best with the batteries but the charger doesn’t have a good connection. Works, but not as well as I hoped.

This thing is a piece of absolute junk. The woeful build quality is apparent as soon as you take it out of the box. It has about the same heft and feeling of solidity as a piece of toilet paper, yet when one actually uses the product one is disappointed even further. Sometimes the device catches the slide and moves it under the light; other times it doesn't. The action is rickety and uneven. I was moved to write this review (and I rarely review products) a few minutes ago when my slide got stuck in the device. It took me ten minutes, but I finally managed to push it out with a steak knife. I feel that I really have no choice but to throw this thing away. It's grossly inferior to the 1981 device which the Panavue was meant to replace. If you made the mistake of buying this thing, please don't add insult to your injury by paying $16 for the wall-outlet adapter.

By my own admission I did not know the AC plug in was not included with this viewer. It works on 2 "D" batteries which are NOT easy to install in the machine. Then within a week the batteries were dead even though the viewer was used for about 1 hour over the course of the week. For the price I expected much better quality so am returning it.

So no one gets stuck on buying a piece of junk as I did by this amazon entry on slide viewers which had no reviews previously. After I purchased this item I realized to late that this is the same item as amazon advertises as "Pana Vue Automatic lighted 2x2 slide viewer. If you go to this item you will see the rating is only 3.2 and thats being genereous. My item was used ands I paid $35 for an item that did not work. I also purchased the AC adapter seperately but the viewer did not light up. I solved rthe problem with a bit of ingenuity. I taped rthe copper contact that engages rthe bulb to the bulb. Next I taped the copper slide contact on the top of the white batterey asasembly to where it makes contact with another copper slide . This is the slide that allows fore the off and on function. Now it is lit up. I removed rthe batteries abd insereted the assemly back into the viewer. I plugged in the pana-vue AC adapter and Wa La I had a working viewer.. When you want to turn off just pull out the prongs from the adapter. Plug in when r3eady to use. Don't usew batteries in this setup otherewise you can't rturn the unit off. Believe me you won't want to enter the battery assembly more then once. Make sure you purchase on AC adapter its well worth it.

I used the same slide sorter (different color) years ago. The current model is just as reliable and easy to use. Changing batteries is NOT difficult if you follow the directions carefully and don't assume (as I did) that you know how to do it. I have experienced occasional jams, but every time there has been an obvious cause -- usually a defect in the slide, but once in a while because my stack was loaded with a slide out of alignment. If you have hundreds or thousands of slides to review, this is the best tool available short of a projector with a stack loader. The image is clear and large enough to be useful. My slides are forty years old and leave lots of dust, so I would appreciate an easier way to clean the lens.
