We really wanted to like this microwave but it just didn't perform well. The unit looks great and appears to be well built but that's about were it ends. The microwave was slow to heat and did so unevenly. We compared its performance to our 7 year old 1000 watt above range Frigidaire and it always under performed. The Amana could not cook potatoes or burritos evenly and it took on average 20% more time to get these foods up to the same temp. When a burrito was heated up in the Amana, temperatures varied by as much as 40 degrees in different areas. The same thing happened with potatoes.NOTE: these microwaves ovens are designed for commercial use. Once you read all the literature you will find out that the warranty is void if used in a non commercial environment. In other words at home. Since it didn't work correctly and we were using in a non commercial environment, we returned to Amazon and they refunded the purchase price. Thank you Amazon !!I cannot recommend this microwave and that's a big disappointment given its fabricated in the USA.

Amana RCS10TS Medium-Duty Microwave Oven, 1000WI keep going through LG, Panasonic and Samsung microwaves throughout my home ownership and they break down one way or another - I must have bad luck? I'm done with consumer grade microwave ovens. This time I opted to go with a commercial microwave without a turntable inside. On commercial microwaves without turntables so called "flat bed" microwaves, such as this one, the microwave can heat up and cook food effectively still. They have a rotating motor that drives the stirring blades under or overtop the flatbed, which distributes the waves evenly to heat the food. So rather than a lousy turntable that turns, the microwave is distributed using spinning blades rather than spinning the food around. Having said that, does it work? yes! absolutely it does. What i found different is that the FOOD is heated and the container it is in (such as glass tupperware), doesnt get ultra hot. I found that with all my previous consumer microwaves, the container itself kept getting scalding hot. My guess is that the is is because either the stirring blades cook food differently (more efficient?) OR perhaps because this model, the magnetron is at the TOP of the microwave rather than SIDE. I'm no expert but this is a definite observation i've had with cooking food in this unit.Right when you open the box this is a different level of build quality. Heavier than retail microwaves -- it is solid and when opening/closing the door, it does NOT budge. LG/Panasonic/Samsung slides around on the countertop when i open/close the door! This one is just a handle and its SOLID. The machine does budge AT ALL. On my previous machine the door latch broke, and closing/opening was a real pain. This is a SOLID handle that quickly open/close and stops/starts the microwave FAST. No messing with push button latches. Just to prove its robust build, this oven is stackable (restaurants that need more than one can buy two and stack them on top of each other). If you tried to stack consumer microwaves that on consumer grade product, it would bend the sheet metal.Inside of the microwave is a chamber that looks robust and feels robust. There is no "cardboard" looking magnetron cover. It is a plastic cover that (i think) integrates the rotating blade for distributing the mangetron microwaves. Inside is lined with stainless steel -- VERY easy to CLEAN!!The interface is DEAD SIMPLE and FAST. Basically Manual time entry (punch in your seconds or minutes and youre done) , Or preprogrammed up to 100 "menu items" where each item can have a specific power output and time -- or you can even program a SEQUENCE of power such as "low for 50 seconds then hold and let it rest for 10seconds, then HIGH for 10 seconds.". You can see why this is handy for commercial use case --- but for me i program buttons 1 to 9 with specific seconds or minutes of time which i use MOST often... Once you memorize it, its lightning fast. I program button 0 for popcorn bag because i configured a specific timer value for oraville-reddenbacher-popcorn bags :). If you must, it comes with a bank of stickers that have timer values and labels like "popcorn" but frankly it COVERs the digits and its annoying when you want to punch in specific manual timer values. So just memorize your programs! I will mention the microwave power is adjustable and also it has a "defrost" mode as well.Note that on this commercial microwave the heat fan runs as soon as you open the microwave door. It's a bit louder than operating a consumer grade microwave. Once you close the door and the microwave time is done, it STILL keeps the cooling fan on for a specified number of seconds -- it CAN be programmed from as little as 15seconds to minutes. Just understand that there is a fan, and just because its on, doesnt mean the microwave is running. This is different from consumer grade ovens where the fan only turns on when microwave is running and turns off when its done. There is an amber (maybe around 2500Kelvin color) looking light that turns on inside the oven, when you open the chamber. Actually i wish this were a bit brighter, but it works. It stays on when cooking and off when unit powers off.The display is a VERY VISIBLE fluorescent vacuum green-ish LCD -- very retro looking. I'm very happy with this display because its BRIGHT. LG and Panasonic i've owned, for whatever reason in bad angle or bright sunlight, the display is SO poor that its barely legible. You will not have an issue with this classic retro "calculator" display. This microwave needs some space. It needs a couple inches above and around and behind the microwave so be aware of this -- it needs some decent air flow for fans to circulate. Luckily my microwave oven shelf is oversized and well suited for this one. Just be aware that you wont want to put this in a tightly fit space.Other misc customizable items are, beep tone volume, or completely mute the beeps... You can also make the microwave "done" alarm to be CONSTANT NAGGING until you open the door or just 3seconds of beeping. You can also limit the microwave time 7minutes or 60minutes . You can change cooling fan time. You can fix it so you cannot enter manual timer only use preset programs. You can fix to single digit programs OR 100.Theres one hidden additional benefit for owning a commecial microwave. PARTS. Parts for this populate microwave are easy to find and are replaceable parts. CANADA stock too -- not something you have to order from usa. If anything breaks, you are nearly certain you can find the part and repair it yourself.Of everything I mentioned, one thing to note: There is NO time of day display. Once the machine is done, and cooling fan turns off, the machine turns OFF. No display of the current time. That is fine with me.I really hope this lasts longer than my other machines. It certainly looks and feels like it will. I will definitely update this review if anything goes wrong. If it does, it's backed by manufacturer 3y warranty as well. I will see how that goes if i have to use it. But if you are asking me if you should get this for your residential home? If your tired of buying new microwaves every 4-5 years, yeah, try this? Costs a bit more than your usual consumer grade machine but i think its worth it.

This is FAR better than any of the highly-rated microwave ovens for residential use. It is incredibly easy to clean, as it has no turntable and the interior is all smooth stainless steel except for the bottom panel of the interior which is smooth plastic. No nooks and crannies. The oven door has a sturdy handle, not a push mechanism that will deteriorate and break with extended use. The exterior dimensions are comparable to a medium-sized Panasonic microwave, but the interior cavity is HUGE, similar to what you would find on a large or full-size residential microwave oven. Programming is simple and versatile, with the ability to cook at full power, 70%, 50% or 20%. There also is a countdown timer, useful for items that are supposed to be left standing for a period of time after being microwaved. This is a commercial oven, so it has a fan that operates during each cooking cycle and remains on afterwards for a short time. You can program the unit so that the fan will shut off after 15 seconds. The oven is built in the USA, not China. It seems very sturdy, and as it is engineered for frequent use in a commercial kitchen I expect it will last a long time. The manufacturer technically does not warrant the oven for residential use, but this is because their service personnel are not insured to enter private residences. I was told that they have repair facilities in most major cities, and if you have a problem with the oven you can bring it to a repair facility and they will repair it. The quality of fit and finish on the exterior of the oven is more than acceptable for a commercial unit, not quite up to ultra-high-end residential standards if one were to examine it closely, but the oven looks great on my kitchen counter.

Update: another one, April 2022So performance is good but not stellar. Price seemed to increase by approximately $70 after contacting/corresponding with seller.Never falters. Often needs extra time to cook through or not leave frozen middle. It has no glass turntable, just like the high end GE. It uses a fan to stir the microwaves to achieve even heating. This is a good thing! Heats okay; nothing remarkable. The fan starts when you open the door, and continues after the READY indicator lights up, and STAYS ON, seemingly forever, after you remove whatever you are heating. Operation of microwave is not exactly a steep learning curve and easily mastered. The only flaw we have found is that the “fit & finish” of the exterior cabinet is not perfect, the corners are sharp and not square.

I like this microwave! I spent a lot of time researching to find one that was comparable to my 35 year old Amana Radar Range. It was very important to me that it have a stainless steel interior. I don't care that It doesn't have buttons that say defrost etc and I don't find it terribly noisy like some people have complained about. It works wonderfully and the ability to just push one button for either 10 sec., 20 sec, up to 5 min is very convenient. You can also program it to any time you want or punch in the time manually if you like. It has the larger interior I wanted. Heats things quickly and looks great on my counter. Just what I was looking for!

The microwave function of this unit, along with the build quality, is excellent. For only a few dollars more it is superior to the typical home microwaves. The only problem is whenever the door is opened, the fan turns on, and it runs for a couple of minutes. (See comments on cutting fan run time.)When the microwave is on, the fan runs as it should, but it doesn't stop for several minutes after the microwave is done, which is mandatory for commercial cooling. However, when the door is opened to get the food out, the fan count starts over. When the door is opened to put something in, the fan timer starts over, even if the door is shut without the microwave ever being turned on. When I open the door to clean the microwave, guess what starts. This unit is fan happy, which makes lots of incidental noise for no apparent reason. With 15 other programming options, how about one to leave the fan off unless the microwave is started.Outside of the excessive fan run time, everything else about this microwave is very good. It cleans easily, it cooks evenly and it's well built.Update: See the comments for instructions on how to cut the fan run time. Every annoying second counts!Update: 4/2018 The more I use this microwave the more I like it. I've cut the fan run time down to 15 seconds, which is much better. There are lots of spare parts if I ever need them. I hope Amana doesn't discontinue this unit. It's a good one for the price.Update: 5/2019. My unit has been running trouble free for 3 years. I noticed more failure reviews for the newer ones. I don't know if Amana changed it or if they had a bad batch. There are a lot of spare parts available for these, and they're mostly easy to repair so I plan on keeping my going for as long as I can. This one isn't a throw away unit.
