Very nice bike part but for me with a 35 year old mountain bike it just was too thick. I couldn’t get my cassette on because the guard was too thickI do recommend a try for others!

I coated with clear spray to prevent rust. I chose metal because plastic turns yellow quickly and looks crappy in a short time.

Bought this as a replacement for the plastic ones that never last very long. Wanted a stainless steel one, but this is all I could find. So I gave it a clear coat of polyurethane before mounting it. Still looks like new and I expect it to last as long as the bike lasts!

The original plastic spoke protector was clipped to base of spokes and was trashed when the chain popped off the lowest gear. Luckily this did not cause injury by jamming the rear wheel but it did trash the deraileur hanger. I liked this idea of a more robust metal protector for the spokes and chain. Mounting this requires removing the gear cassette and then putting this over the cassette mount. Unfortunately this caused way too much friction between the cassette and mounting so rear wheel did not rotate freely. It even distorted the metal plate a little into the base of mounting splines. I took a dremel tool with large burr and ground this protector's center hole so it was no longer gripped by the cassette. I attached the protector to the spokes with three thin tie wraps placed so as to be away from gear. Enlarging the center hole with dremel was not difficult and I was pleased with the result.

This is a chrome plated steel spoke protector which is made ONLY for freewheel hubs. The opening for the freewheel hub is a standard 35 mm. The spoke protector is of good quality and fit just fine. It was shipped USPS from California and took about a week to arrive. It was packaged well to avert any damage in shipment.Note to self: this will not fit cassette type hubs (68 mm hub). It is made for traditional freewheel hubs (35 mm).Recommended for freewheel type hubs; great spoke protector!

This is the second one I have bought. These look nice and won't crack like plastic and will last a long time. The price is a little more but well worth it. It is easy to install if you have the tool to remove the cassette. Don't buy it if you have a freewheel hub as it only fits if you have a freewheel cassette.

I had a spoke protector go bad due to age on an old bike and you can guess what happened. I've been replacing spokes. This looks good and will make sure that never happens again. I have put one on each of the bikes I ride. You will need a tool to remove the freewheel, but once you have that it is easy.

I put this on a 2009 Specialized Hotrock 20 I was restoring for a friend to replace a yellowed, cracked, cheap plastic spoke protector. I was astonished at how good it looked - bright, shiny chrome. Fantastic! I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Pro Tip - as you tighten down your freewheel, take the time to perfectly center the spoke protector using the largest cog teeth as your guide. I didn't do that the first time and when the wheel spun, the protector "wobbled", slightly off-center. I had to remove the wheel from the bike, loosen the freewheel and get it centered perfectly.Did I mention how it helped the bike look awesome? Oh, yeah, I did. Check the photos...
