My two granddaughters are visiting next week and this looked like a really fun activity for them to do with with each other and their moms! So we will be testing it next week and I will put in an update. The nice thing about this kit (besides the frilly girly look of everything, and hey, I raised five sons so it’s about time I get to buy frilly girly items!) is that there is no sewing involved. One of my granddaughters is only three and I was looking for activities that she could do with her older cousin and yet not be at a disadvantage because of being 3 years younger. When I saw this I knew I had it!I’m so excited! These two girls live a thousand miles apart and I wanted them to have some special bonding time just for the two of them. When they are together the younger one just only wants to be with her (only) girl cousin (there are 8 boy cousins all together), so it is super cute!

I just received the Fashion Designer Kit that I ordered for my 6-year-old granddaughter, and I know she is going to love it.She likes to bring her Barbie dolls into my sewing shop and is always asking me for scraps of fabric that she can make into clothes for them. That usually involves using regular tape and rubber bands. The way the manikins are made, makes it pretty easy to put an outfit together. This is such a great idea, for children to show their creativity, and she has a lot of that. I started to open some of the bags of fabric and saw that the fabric is grouped together according to some of the pictures of outfits in the booklet. Of course, you could mix and match everything also. The way that they are grouped is a good starting point for designing the clothes. There aren't really any written instructions, but it is simple enough to see how the manikins are put together and the pictures show you the steps for putting the outfits together. Adding the 2 dolls is a nice touch, so you can see what the outfit will look like on your actual doll. I imagine that once you design the dress, it can all be put together using the double-sided tape on your doll. I will work with her to get things started, but I am sure she will want to do it on her own, once she knows how. It also has a lot of pretty embellishments to add some bling to your outfits.I know that she will eventually be asking me to sew her creation together. This might really get her interested in sewing, I hope. I am not sure she is quite old enough for that yet.I won't be able to add any photos for a while. I am going to save this for an Easter present for her, instead of giving her all that sugary candy. She will have plenty of that from everyone else.I can't wait to see her face when she opens this up, she is going to be so excited.

This fashion kit is awesome! Like if I could give it a 6th star I would! It took me under an hour to make 2 of these dresses. For me it's super simple to follow the directions but then again I do sew irl. I love that it's no sew and you place them on a mannequin or the two dolls that come included. Everything is precut for you or your child. I would be careful about the dress/circle part, it's cut on the stretch part of the fabric Of course you can be more creative and add or take away from the dresses too. I cut a triangle away for the pink dress in the picture. If you like making tiny little fake dresses or your child does I would recommend this kit!Pro(s): Awesome for creative people. Pre-cut. Has instructions. Simple/easy to do. Mess free.Con(s): Doesn't come with scissors.

I was not sure my 10 year old daughter would be interested in this. When she got it, there was alot of pieces to put together to create outfits. With my initial help, this item was SO fun. Her little friend would come over and help her create. I loves seeing her ideas come to fruition. Really brings out the kids creative side. Great pricing for what this includes and such FUN!

I really wanted to love this little fashion kit for my daughter—she’s always designing outfits for her Barbies, and this seemed like the perfect creative outlet. The concept is fun, and the pre-cut materials are a nice touch. But one major letdown is that the outfits you create on the mannequin can't actually be removed. That part wasn’t clear to me when buying, so maybe that’s on me for not reading the fine print, but it’s frustrating.I had hoped she could design and then reuse the pieces, but unless you tape the fabric together (which doesn’t hold well), the outfits don’t stay. The dolls that come with it are also very low quality—super thin plastic that breaks easily. We’re still planning to use the fabric by hot gluing it into actual outfits for her Barbies, so it’s not a total loss. But overall, for the price and what we expected, it just doesn’t feel worth it.

When I saw this I had to have it. My idea was to sew up some dresses for my grand niece’s dolls. My cousins did this for me when I was a girl so I had this dream I would do the same. However when I opened the kit part of me wanted to make one there and then. My second attempt was better than the first but I really dislike the supplied adhesive tape. Seems anathema to me to assemble with double sticky tape as I am a skilled seamstress but was sort of like draping on a dress form. Next time I will sew them but you may want to investigate an alternative adhesive. Other than the tape, I love the materials and they made cute dresses. I recommend starting with or at least looking at style 8 as it is the only style that shows how to assemble the mannequin. The first one I did wrong. In spite of my frustration, it was a lot of fun, I had a blast and I am sure any child interested in fashion will to! I think older kids will have an easier time, younger ones will need help.
