Okay, firstly, I took the advice of some of the people who reviewed this already: the knots. Here's the thing. The knots are great. The problem is the nylon cord into which those knots are tied. This stuff is the Harry Houdini of ropes. It wants to escape that knot because it's so slippery. So here's what I did. See my picture insert. I retied them with heat-shrink wire covers in place. Then I superglued the rope back to itself after the knot and covered it with that heat-shrink cover on each knot. That glue will keep the knot from slipping, and the cover will keep the edges from grabbing anything and pulling them apart. I hope. The other thing people say is that you have to throw real good to get this behind the disc. Well, duh. If you were a good thrower, your disc wouldn't have ended up in the river. Amirite? So yeah, it takes a few tosses to get it behind the disc where you can then walk along the edge of the creek until you can pull it right through the disc. I did this three times in a row from the farthest reaches of my pool. And it took probably 1 minute for two of them, and about 5 minutes for another, because my disc was in a corner. So I was basically challenging myself to get that darn thing behind my disc in a nearly impossible place. Well, I did it, finally. So it can be done. Now, granted my pool doesn't have slimy moss-covered algae-infested rocks and branches and dead animal bones in it. Nor are there any minnows or turtles trying to bite my disc retriever. But the point is, once you have captured your disc, this thing is superior. It WILL bring your beloved back to you.My ONLY complaint is that I ordered the orange one and Amazon sent me the yellow one. Sigh.

Got some discs! Holds on to em and won't let go!BUT 2 issues....1- RE-TIE THE KNOTS. The way they come it will disappear forever the 3rd time you throw it. Just replace the nylon string it comes with actually.2- The hook design this has versus the flat bar design a lot of others have makes it get stuck on stuff real bad like a grappling hook.

Able to retrieve discs that have been underwater for long periods of time. Even deep water and under mud.

I can't believe how well this thing works! I have saved so many discs, it's worth it's weight in gold. All my friends bought one after seeing mine! Only limitation is the length of rope which can be changed easily if desired.

The disc retriever works great. I pulled in 6 discs the first time using it. You need to immediately retie the included line, as the knots will not hold. You will probably lose the retriever on there first throw. Better yet, replace the line with a longer one, 40 to 60 feet. Using a surf fishing pole with 100 to 150 pound test line works also. It will give you longer throws and easier retrievals. Keeps you out of the shoreline weeds/muck and you feet dry. Less expensive and appears to be a better retriever than the one it imitates.

Got one, and then got another and might buy a third. My kids love fishing for discs-- the course close to us has a pond on hole 9 and 10, and a lot of discs are swallowed by it. This device works. We've used it on 3 outings so far and have pulled in over 40 discs. We did swap the line with a 50' paracord from Walmart for around $4.

This product works great, claws dig in the silt and gets under the disc...careful it does get caught on rocks and roots...go easy or you'll have a disc and retriever in the drink. Plus string is a little short but easily fixed by adding more.
