.015” out of spec needs more quality control

The price is right and it does measure consistently. The scale is off. Make sure you use a caliper or something to measure the actual height after you get a setting in the spring pocket. Mine was off between .018 and .024" (it got more off the bigger the measurement). There is a recess in the top that some retainers will fall into. The measurements on the side are end to end. So if your retainer sits in the recess you need to subtract about .130" from what it says. Like I said, you should take it out and get a good measurement of the device after getting a setting in the pocket anyway, because the scale is off.It is consistent, so after doing a couple you can trust the markings, once you know what they need to read to get your proper height. In my case I needed 1.718 on the exhausts to achieve 1.7 (the rotators did not fall in the recess), and 1.854 on the intakes (since the intake retainers fit in the recess and it was off more at 1.83 than at 1.7).The bottom is very square, so if you have had any machining done to the spring pockets make sure you get it all the way down in the pocket. It is easy to catch it on a very small step on the side of the pocket left by the machining process and not get an accurate reading. Just wiggle it around a little and make sure it's all the way in the pocket.I would buy this again. It does what it is supposed to. You just need to know what you are doing and double check the measurements. If you don't mind double checking and doing some math it is worth the price difference to the more expensive ones.

Very high quality. This is THE one to get. Low Price and high quality. What more could you ask for......

It's off. I think when they calibrated it in the factory they calibrated it based on the actual height of the tool and not where the retainer actually sits in so it's off by about .13 inches. It's not a big deal for me since I subtract this number from the reading, but I wish it was calibrated right. I gave it 3 stars based on the price. A suggestion to anyone using this....This is what I did. I measured the installed height, took out the micrometer, and with the micrometer at the same reading I got while in the engine, I then used calipers and subtracted .13 or .14. Im sure quality control isn't a strong suit, so some may be calibrated differently.

There are plenty of these Valve Spring Height micrometers on the market that look similar but do range in price some. I ordered this one made by “Bonbo” and named 4929 which is an amazing coincidence as a major cam manufacturer has a much pricier version with the exact same name..... This one was middle of the road price wise. What arrived was consistent with the description and photos. Very good quality all aluminum construction (not steel as advertised) with very good fit and machining. No burrs or irregular edges or surfaces. Knurling is substantial and clean cut which makes for solid grip. It has black anodizing on all surfaces. The white numbers on the black anodizing make it very easy to read. 1.6 to 2.2 measurement range which covers a lot of applications (check your desired VSH to make sure it is within that range but again most should). Adjustment mechanism is smooth and consistent with zero slip and accuracy checks out with verniers +-.002. No instructions included (but product photos have some guidance) so if you don’t know how to use you will likely need to find a video. No case included either so you will want to find a dust proof container to store it in like you would any other precision measurement device. Overall very happy with the tool for the price point.

Worked nice, and is sturdy. Has smooth threads to tighten the keepers into the retainers. The scale on the side was off by .010, just had to subtract from actual reading.

The heads I measured first had different diameter retainers on the intake versus exhaust valves. The intake retainers were small enough to fit inside the step at the top of the tool. This causes some math issues. The step is .140 (as close as I could measure) so it required you to subtract .140 from your measured height because the retainer sat down in the recessed area. The calibrated actual measurement you get is .008 short of the actual measurement. So far, I cannot find any way to calibrate. This much error isn't horrible in this situation of setting valve spring installed height, but it sure makes it confusing if you are subtracting .140 and adding .008 to your measurements. Recipe for mistakes. If you buy this, measure the accuracy and pay attention because it is easy to make mistakes with this tool. Great idea though.
