These lanterns are bright, easy to use and the batteries last for a very long time. These lanterns helped get me through the recent 6 day safety power shutdown at my house during the SoCal wildfires. Excellent price for a very useful item. These would be great for camping and backup lighting for your hose.

These are nice, lightweight little lanterns that are each powered by three AA batteries, which are not included. You will need to have 12 AA batteries on hand to use these. To operate the lantern, you simply pull up the upper part. The only way to adjust the amount of light is to adjust how far up you pull the top part. That works if the lantern is sitting on a flat surface, but I'm not sure it would work well if you were to hang up the lantern (I haven't tried that) because doing so might affect whether the top part stays in place. These lanterns would be a bit more useful if they had a magnet in the base so that they could be placed securely on a car hood or other metal surface. These came as a set of four. They would be handy to have in an automobile to use as an emergency light, or on a bedside or chairside table or in a bathroom in case of an unexpected power outage.

While we don't lose power that often, it does happen in our area. Once, we were without power for a week when a storm came through that knocked down lots of trees in our neighborhood, and one of them took direct aim at our electric meter. While we do have a few flashlights laying around the house, as well as an oil lantern that we keep for emergencies, these battery-operated lamps make a lot more sense. The lamps are fairly small, at only 7" high when turned off, so they are pretty easy to store under sinks. To turn on the lamp, you just pull it up and it turns on automatically. Each lamp requires three AA batteries, so we do need to remember to keep those available. The batteries go into a compartment at the base of the lamp. Most important, they give off a lot of light. One of the pictures I included shows how much it lights up a pitch-black room. I have not tried testing a lantern with brand new batteries to see how long it would stay lit, but since these are LED bulbs, I would expect the light would last at least several hours. While I don't expect to need to use these lanterns very often, I am really happy that I have them available for the next time when we lose power for a day or more.

I am liking these camping style lanterns. They come in a set of four so that’s enough to place them in strategic locations around the house during a power outage to keep from stumbling around in the dark. The bale type handle is perfect for carrying them with you or to hang them up high to light a room with 360 degrees of light. Another great feature is how you turn them on and off. Rather than trying to feel around in the dark for the switch, you simply pull the handle up to turn them on and push it down to turn them off. The brightness can also be controlled by how much you pull them up. With them pushed down to just before they shut off the light is partially covered by the base of the lantern and you get a softer light, the more you pull up on the bale the brighter they get. Each light operates on a 3 AA battery power source and because the bulbs are LED the batteries can last a very long time. These lanterns use traditional AA disposable batteries so you will want to keep some on hand to keep your lanterns burning bright. You could use rechargeable batteries but if you are out camping for more than a few days, you couldn’t recharge them anyway unless you should find a tree with an outlet growing on it, and from what I understand, they can be extremely elusive ;) Overall, these light are bright with the 360 degree field of view, the batteries last for days due to the LED bulbs, and for a price somewhere south of 8 bucks each, they are a great value. I really like them and I believe you will too.

Using new AA alkaline batteries, I ran one of these lanterns for 40 hours over a period of five days (not all at once, as one would typically not use them during daylight :). The batteries were still holding on, but the light had dimmed a bit. I did not run the batteries to depletion, the lantern looked like it would still go for another night or two, perhaps more (alkaline batteries tend to recover a bit when left to rest, but the depth of charge diminishes). The three rows of LEDs throw enough light to easily read by when the batteries are fresh, and enough to get around the house or campsite even when the batteries have been used for 40 hours. In my area the power company is not known for keeping the juice flowing 24/7. We have outages fairly regularly, the longest of which I've experienced was 5 days. This lantern would have covered that period.Bottom line: I'll be keeping these four lanterns and a pack of AA batteries on hand for the next outage. These lamps, a wood stove, and a book will go a long way towards making the power outages bearable. In my camping days, these lanterns would have been much much easier than the Coleman lantern I used, and would have provided about as much light without the fuel hazard and frequent pumping of the lantern to keep the gas pressure up. These LED lanterns are a win.

I received this product quickly and it was packed very secure. Upon opening, I placed the batteries and all was well. These units give off a considerable amount of light. I have used them in low light situations as well as complete darkness and found the output to be exceptional. At this point, I have used them for over 2 months with frequent use and have not replaced the batteries. I use them for approximately 30 minutes to an hour each time and the batteries are still good.I highly recommend these for those looking for a compact, light solution that will cast bright light in a small form factor.
