Wife's car needed new brakes. It was the first time I needed a specialty tool to compress a brake caliper so I bought this hoping for the best but fully expecting I'd either need to modify it or find another tool. Very pleasantly surprised to find not only was it well constructed but also worked perfectly out of the box and the hangers were a nice bonus.

If you have the credit and know you will be done in a day, just get the right loaner tool from your local parts store. These cubes are a great idea, but are very situational. If your lucky and your piston matches one of the patterns AND the caliper is big enough then this will be much easier than trying to use pliers or something.Unfortunately all the listings I found for these cubes just show a diagram of piston faces and don't have photos of ALL five sides of the tool you are ordering so it can be a real gamble. I was trying this one with an 87 MR2 caliper (same as some corollas) which has rounded Vs on the pistons, much like in the diagram they show. However none of the sides fit very well. The small pegs at the very edges ended up as the best option, but they are rounded and smooth so you have to press against the piston almost as much as with pliers and it will still slip a few times. I think this might be actually better if it was not painted. Also the rear calipers I was working on are rather small and when backing the piston out, this tool would jam against the other side of the caliper before the piston was halfway out. I am really only giving this four stars because of the included perfectly fine and always useful hooks.

The cube did not fit the malibu. I ended up using a pair of needle nose pliers to turn (compress) the caliper. It took forever. Don't buy this if you are changing pads on a 2016 Malibu. THe hangers are nice and because of these I will not be returning the cube.

The tool was advertised as a fit for a Mazda 3 and it was. Worked well. Haven't used the hangers yet as the emergency brake cable held the caliper. I normally use a bent coat hanger which can be adjusted to any application so they have marginal utility.

The extra hangers are used to suspend some tools from a hard wire storage shelf and even my gym bag in the shower off the wet floor.

This tool is a great idea, unfortunately it did not fit my vehicle. After reading reviews and seeing others state that it fit the same vehicle that I needed it for I decided to buy it. It did not. I had to go down to my local Napa Auto parts store and get the loaner set they have. Which worked fantasticMy advice would be to do a little more research to make sure this fits your vehicle.

This tool worked perfectly on the rear calipers of a 2012 Ford Fusion. After cleaning the four notches on the brake caliper piston this tools pins fit squarely into the piston. For me, turning piston in clockwise slowly with slight pressure to keep the tool in place did the trick. Also making sure the dust boot did not twist with the piston to prevent damage. The S-hooks were an added bonus with this tool.
