degrades the audio output to a much lower volume and requires you to really up the input volume.

AVOID. I've purchased two of these and both of them had the output left channel fail. Works fine for a while (past the return period of course), then dies. I've swapped out RCA cables and input/output devices and it is definitely this unit. I wish I had spent the money on the more expensive models from the get. Avoid this.

Review of Race L/R SplitterI recently picked up the race L/R splitter, and for its price point, it offers solid performance. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:Functionality:This splitter does exactly what it’s supposed to do—split a single audio input into four outputs. It’s a straightforward, no-frills device that delivers on its promises. The plug-and-play functionality is convenient, making it easy to set up without any hassle.Build Quality:As an entry-level product, the build quality is decent but not exceptional. It’s made with basic materials, which reflects its budget-friendly price. It’s not designed for professional use, but for casual or basic needs, it performs adequately.Price:One of the standout features of this splitter is its affordability. It’s a very budget-friendly option, making it accessible for those who need a simple solution without breaking the bank. If you’re looking for something more advanced or durable, you might need to look elsewhere, but for basic splitting tasks, it’s a good deal.Overall Experience:Overall, this race L/R splitter is a solid choice for those who need a basic audio splitter. It does the job well, is easy to use, and is priced attractively for entry-level needs. I’m giving it a 4-star rating because, while it’s not high-end, it’s reliable for its intended use and offers good value for the money. In summary, if you’re in the market for a basic, affordable audio splitter that can handle splitting a single audio source into multiple outputs, this race L/R splitter is a decent option. It’s simple, effective, and well-suited for non-professional applications.

The FlyroadUp 3.5mm Aux + RCA L/R Stereo Audio Splitter 1 in 4 Out has a quality build in a sturdy metal casing. The input can either be RCA or 3.5mm connectors. I like it. The splitter box is essentially 4 active amplifiers close to unity gain with their inputs tied together. The box allows multiple audio devices to connect to the same audio source without loading it down. The 4 amplifiers are essentially buffers with low output impedance capable of driving power amplifiers.I tested the splitter by removing the 12V power supply and the audio went away, indicating that there are active amplifiers/buffers inside the box. Without opening the box, as a second confirmation, I checked if the 4 outputs were tied together inside the box with a multimeter. The results were negative, indicating that there were indeed 4 independent amplifiers inside the box. From the audio tests, 4 outputs were identical with the same frequency response. It is not a crossover network. Furthermore, for each channel, the 3.5mm jack is tied to the corresponding RCA jacks internally. Therefore you can use either 3.5mm jack or RCA jacks but not both.My audio tests have shown that the box provides good audio output at close to unity gain without noticeable distortion or audio filtering. This is exactly what an active audio splitter box does. I am delighted it works as intended. In conclusion, this splitter box is handy for converting a high-impedance audio source to a low-impedance audio source to drive multiple power audio amplifiers. However, it is not a crossover network. It is for those who are more experienced with audio setup and know exactly what they are doing.Pros:- Quality build in a sturdy metal casing- Optional RCA or 3.5mm input/output connectors- Allows multiple audio devices to connect to the same audio source- Provides quality audio output at close to unity gain- No noticeable distortion or audio filtering- Independent amplifiers for each outputCons:- None that I can see, except that you need to know when to use it

This flexible audio device has a basic black metal box design, favouring functional over fancy design. I appreciate that choice for little utility devices like this that probably won’t be seen anyways. The device requires 12VDC that is supplied from the provided adapter. There are no controls at all, not even a power on/off. There's no volume control because it passes the input signal to the four outputs at the same volume out as in. (I tested that to be sure.)I found that this active buffer/splitter adds no audible hum, noise or hiss to the signal. It worked perfectly in all my tests with a variety of source material. It takes one stereo signal in via either dual RCA or 3.5mm stereo mini phone jack. There is an internal op amp unity-gain buffer amp that drives the four outputs simultaneously, again through dual RCAs or 3.5mm stereo mini phone jacks. This device possibly won’t satisfy the most picky audiophile or for critical applications because it uses a 4558 dual op amp in the signal path (see photo of internals). That IC is not regarded as having the best audio performance.
