This is as described, just a nice whistle with a hose that you can attach to hear the piston moving up. It really doesn't take a lot of air to make this work. The whistle isn't tremendously loud, but as long as it's fairly quiet in the area you'll be able to hear it fine (assuming you have normal hearing abilities). Quality seems good and will hold up well sitting in the toolbox for the next use :)

I made the simple mistake of removing my distributor to get to a bolt as I was changing my oil valve cover gasket by forgetting to take a picture or mark where the rotor was pointing under the cap first. So of course that meant when it was all said and done, my vehicle wouldn't start. This tool works very well. Not only to find TDC but also to know when your on the compression stroke. Simply removed the #1 cylinder spark plug and installed the TDC tool in its place. Now when going under to hand crank the engine, when you are on compression stroke on that cylinder, it will push air through the whistle that you can clearly and loudly hear. To find TDC with this tool, once you begin to hear the whistle from rotation, start to go slow. Just small incremental rotation of the crank where you hear the whistle in short bursts. As soon as you rotate and it's silent, stop. You are at TDC.I was the able to line up my distributor to #1 when seated and my vehicle fired right up.Now many are gonna argue that it's not a precise method to finding TDC and that is very true. For my case of just resetting my distributor, its not a huge issue. If your needing it to be exact for more precise timing procedures then this tool is still very helpful to get you in the ballpark quickly then you can turn your attention to the timing marks and go from there.I never thought a whistle would make this mistake a simple one to fix and I'm very glad it did!
