I have a 4.5hp Honda engine, so I had to dial the pressure down to under 2,000 psi, I'd guess. I plan to upgrade my engine with a nice, used lawn tractor engine that I have later, to take full advantage of the 3100 psi.If you are replacing the pump on your smaller washer, like I am, is highly recommend NOT getting a crazy high psi pump like I did. The engine lugs the entire time I use it. Also, pay attention to the outlet direction. Some pumps have the connections in the front, some in the rear. With great effort, this is reversible by disassembling and reassembling the pump unit, but I don't recommend it.
