This was less expensive than the offerings from the local big-box retailer, easy to install, and works very well. I just ordered a second one for another gate.Pro tip: for left-handed gates (if you are on the hinge side the hinges are on the right), the top of the spring should be mounted on the gate and the bottom on the post. For right-handed gates (hinges on the left) the top is mounted on the post and the bottom on the gate. Think northwest -> southeast in both cases. If you are loading the spring counter-clockwise per instructions and the gate pulls open instead of pushing closed, you have it backward.

I needed to replace an existing spring on my wrought iron gate as it had failed over time and the original owner had installed with only one screw top and bottom because the frame is 1" wide and the spring was 1.5" wide. This unit is 1-1/4" wide so when installed at an angle as required, it fits and works perfectly. I was able to secure both ends with two screws. I used some #8 stainless self tapping screws. Finally, the gate will auto close again to ensure both dogs remain in the yard after the gardeners leave and also keep my homeowners valid for having self closing gates on a yard with a pool.

Installed it like instructions said went to tighten spring it just went around and round. The pin at the bottom was missing not letting spring to tighten. So I had to make a pin and then everything worked good. Now gate shuts by itself and latches. Tried to contact seller but no luck.

Had to put 2 of these on the gate. Seems like it needs another one.
