"Internally threaded" should refer to the threads on the barbell, NOT on the balls.In this case it's the balls, NOT the barbell which is internally threaded.This means you'll have to slip the bare metal "screw" through your piercing, NOT the blunt barbell.

As soon as I put one of the screw balls on the the end of the ring split off and it was useless.

Solid polished wood. The design on the front feels like it may be just glued on but I have had them in (on a permanent basis) for about 3 months now and I have had no issues with them. Gem and all are still attached.
