The construction is high quality being a fairly hefty aluminum construction. The buttons feel good and the knob is also aluminum with a good feel when turned and pressed. If you need or want a pad with a media control knob I'd recommend this one.

On MacOS, this device and software combination does NOT mute your mic.Let me repeat that... this device and software combination does NOT mute your mic. What it does do is set the mic input to 0%.That is ABSOLUTELY NOT the same thing as muting your microphone. When you press the mute button on the device the OS indicates you are muted with a large red icon of a microphone with a line through it in the bottom right corner.Fortunately, I happened to test this device out with a friend before using it for work. Glad I did.My friend could hear everything I was saying, it was just quieter. After spending quite a bit of time making sure there wasn't some way to configure it to actually mute the mic, I've concluded this is a total hack and would be extremely embarrassed had I been using it while under the impression that nobody could hear me.This sucker is going back.

Not much you can really say, but the turning knob works well along with the buttons to play stop skip etc. I assumed I would need to mess about getting it to work with the computer etc, but plugged it in and it worked without issues. Fabby

The knob and other functions work great. Just the mute software is clunky and does not work for me.

The volume controller encoder is not debounced, i.e. sometimes an increase is followed shortly by a decrease or even two decreases. The software is abysmal, can't remap buttons. The buttons feel ok. The knob has a tiny burr on top, the beveled edges will reflect lighsources in your eye.

All I wanted was what this is supposed to offer: volume control, playback control, and mic control. With the mic control being the most important feature. For my WHF setup, I have a nice dock and the speakers in my monitors are just fine. Unfortunately, if you're like and and you bought this to use with your work computer that is locked down by your company's IT department, be prepared to not be able to use the microphone mute / unmute functionality. The playback buttons work great and the volume adjustment is ok (I had expected there to be a 0% and 100% position for the dial instead of continuously turning round and round to get to the desired volume). The other options I considered:- The Logi Dock ($400) does the volume & mic control, but I don't need the docking functionality (and it only supports two monitors anyway) and I don't NEED the speaker. So the $400 is just not worth it to me.- The Microsoft Modern USB-C Speaker ($100, but currently available for $65) is what I'm going to try out now. I had hoped to find a cheaper solution since I don't actually need the microphone and speakers, but for $20 more than I paid for this Vaydeer option, and with many more reviews and lots of people all saying that the mute works, I'll give that a go now that I've returned this device.

(I am an OSX Mac user)This is basically what I hoped it would be. The knob feels nice. The case is a nice feeling metal material. The buttons click satisfyingly. I plugged it in and it works with no software or setup. Spotify just worked, which tells me it integrates with the OS's media control API. I suppose if I wanted the Zoom mute feature there is software, but I don't truly need that.It has a setting for how fast you want the volume to change, and that seems a bit pointless as the slowest speed is plenty fast.Only thing that's not perfect is that sometimes I will be increasing volume and I will see it add a volume bar, but then "lose" a bar, and so then you just have to keep twisting it. Feels like a bit of a shaky implementation or poor handling for the (likely) encoder inside but in practice it's still a nice, useful product.

11/27/2024 - Windows 11 update. I moved the knob to a new Windows 11 machine some months ago, and thought I should update this.First, there was a firmware update. Unfortunately, the software did not mention this, so I spent some time figuring that out myself. The Firmware Update button is in the "About" screen. After the update, the thing was far more responsive. However, there's still a LARGE delay between rotating the knob and the actual change. This is for every "click", so if you go from 25% to 50% with the increment set to 5%, that's five clicks, and you'll hear each increment about a second apart, so the entire change will take about 5 seconds. Furthermore, it "buffers" a certain amount, so if, for example, you rotate down 5 clicks past 0% then rotate back UP, you'll have through five seconds of 0% before you hear the first UP increment take place. The MUTE button still doesn't turn off the mic. It does seem to about halve the mic's sensitivity. And again, there's that second-or-so wait between button press and actual OS change. Finally, I should mention that the cable that came with it was cheap and started having problems about a year ago, causing it to disconnect/reconnect whenever the cable was moved at all. I replaced the cable with a good one, and that was resolved.---12/18/2022 - Received and tested today. (Win 10)TL;dr - Good hardware. Terrible software. Installation nightmare and Mute Mic doesn't work. At all.Okay, first the good. The knob works right out of the box. Apparently you don't need the software for anything but the Mute Mic functionality and controlling the min/max volume. Also the docs say that the increments for the volume knob are different when the software's running. Now, the bad.The software fails in a number of regards, so allow me to itemize:1. When the software's running, you lose the On-Screen volume up/down indicator that normally shows up with keys that have volume controls. This is part of why I believe the software's not really integrating with the O/S, but that they're trying to do it another way that's not really working out for them. But more on that later. This one came first only because it's easiest to explain.2: The installation failed, and failed hard.It appeared to work, and gave me a screen. But it was not set to my region, and I had to resort to the tiny documentation in order to find the "Language" button to set it to English. Then it got worse. The device went from mostly-functional to entirely non-functional. I even tried it on other machines, the device was totally inert (though Windows did give me the "plug/unplug USB" sounds. So I uninstalled it. The hardware was still non-functional. So I re-installed it. No joy. So I uninstalled it and went in to remove the program manually. There I found that under the Program Files folder the "Vaydeer multimedia knob" folder not only still existed, but could NOT be deleted. I tried a few things, then safe booted, changed the folder name (one everything could be deleted even in safe mode), then rebooted again. I was then able to delete the changed folder name. (This is an old nerd trick, and works when something is locking a file during boot). When it was gone, I reinstalled, and found the button for Firmware Update. I did, and the device started working again. Sort of.Then it got a little worse.I wanted to make sure I had the latest updates of both hardware and firmware, so I used both Update buttons a couple of times to make sure. That's when I learned the Firmware Update button will always force an update even when it's the same version. Annoying but not a dealbreaker. Also, when the software updated, every time I used a button or turned the knob, I got a huge JavaScript error screen! So I uninstalled it, rebooted, and reinstalled it again. Now it seemed to work. Then it got a LOT worse.3. Mic Mute doesn't work. I played with it a bit, and everything SEEMED to work. But I'm a tester, and I test stuff. So I used Voice Recorder and made a little recording, in the middle of which I pressed the Mic Mute button, continued talking, and pressed the Mic Mute again and continued for a bit longer. On playback, I should not have been able to hear the part while Mic Mute was engaged. The light was on, and the icon appeared on my screen indicating the mice was muted - but the mic was NOT muted. It was subdued a bit, as if I'd lowered the gain a couple notches, but my voice was still audible.SO IT DOESN'T WORK. The ONE thing this device had that made me want, it simply doesn't work.At this point, I'm undecided if I will contact them or simply send it back. Probably I'll contact them. It should be a simple software update (current version is 0.1.6 for software, 0.1.8 for firmware). I mean, the computer IS receiving the signal to mute the mic, so that part's working. It's just that it's not actually muting. Or at least, it doesn't APPEAR to be muting. I don't know. Maybe another mic is kicking in when the primary one's muted or something. It would explain the volume dip, I guess(?)My keyboard has software that allows me to substitute some keys, and one of these is a Mic Mute function. I use that, and it works perfectly. So I know it CAN be done correctly.
