I need an RS485 to USB cable to connect my Sol-Ark 12K inverter to a Raspberry Pi running the Solar Assistant OS. I was a little worried that the bare wires would be too thick to terminate an RJ45 connector but I had no trouble terminating a pass-through RJ45. Everything seems to work well and I can now disconnect the manufacturer app that sends data to China.

I've used this cable with several different computers and operating systems for a solar-energy monitoring project. It is simply a reliable interface that works for me in OS X, Windows 7, Linux and FreeBSD.

just plugged in, hooked the other end to my security camera, and was able to control it with no setup or special drivers. it just worked, and not having a large head on it makes it easy to install in tight spaces like it is just a normal USB cable.

The unit briefly lights all three LEDs when plugged into a USB port (power, transmit, and receive). When it starts communicating with the devices on the RS485 loop, you can see the communication taking place. It makes it very easy to diagnose problems, and provides quick, visual feedback that data is being communicated. If the lights aren't blinking, settings may have to be changed, drivers might need to be downloaded, or your wiring is wrong.I use this as part of a data collection package. The blinking lights means that all is well, even if the computer screen is off.I love it.
