Your cart is empty.The Sorby SteadyPro Stem is an integral part of the modular tool rest system, a stem is the key to connecting your collection of rests to your lathe. After being attached to a crossbar, jig, or other part of the modular system, the stem sits down into the banjo of your lathe. Adjust to meet your needs, tighten it in place, and get to work on your turning project. This SteadyPro Stem (1" x 4-3/4" length) is most commonly used with full-size lathes. Stem is to be used only with the Robert Sorby modular tool rest systems: SteadyPro and Precision Boring Systems.

After trying other rests that said they were 1" but weren't I was relieved to find that this was a true 1" post and fit very well in my Laguna Revo 15-24.

I ordered both the Sorby rest and post in December and when the post and rest stayed screwed together it was great. Unfortunately the rest and the post would loosen and the rest would not hold position. I could have lived with tightening every once in a while but now the parts will not tighten at all. And no, I did not over tighten the parts. Could be the threading on the rest and post were out of tolerance. Also there is a taper below the threaded end of the post . Instead of the taper it would do well to have a scored disc to snug up against the bottom of the tool rest. I was a big fan of this steady rest when it was working. Hartville tool wasn’t interested in helping and I have yet to hear back from Sorby.

The length is fine for regular turning, but too short for use with a skew on my Powermatic 3620B lathe. It should be about 2" longer.
