Bought for learning curve and to connect my first Zigbee device. Has great potential as it gets enhanced and updated. Interfaces nicely with existing Sonoff Wi-Fi devices and allows control. Not essential at present but i dont want to get left behind.

Absolutely love it that this is a no internet required home automation and security device. So many of the other devices talk to a cloud server to turn on/off your local device to upsell you on cloud services or to collect your data. This device just is fully local and controls everything locally. As of right now, it can control zigbee devices and has a section for automation and dashboarding. The device can run docker images and can add functionality; first one they have added is the wifi Sonoff devices interlink. The device is very compact and looks good with the white color. The front led strip reminds me of a disk drive though. It also has a speaker for alarms and notifications. All of the pairing and such buttons are on top; the USB, power and other connectivity are on the back.Setup is easy. Just connect and then go to ihost.local and it will answer. On the other hand, a raspberry pi and USB Zigbee device with Homelab would do the same thing. And, everything is open source. The rebuttal would be that this is Sonoff which makes a lot of Zigbee and other such devices and would have ease of setup to have everything tested and verified by a single entity. There is still quite a bit of development that is penciled in for more features. The current state with Zigbee and a complicated wifi devices is good and complete for most tasks; but some of the more complicated and nuanced usages might be satisfied with the docker images and extensions in the future.

So I really planned just to use this device with Tasmota and Home Assistant but it actually can do a lot of smart home functions all alone. It would be kind of a waste to just use it for that. I was shocked when I logged in to realize this thing can run docker containers and node-red. My plans have changed and now I'm going to install this as a standalone smart hub at a different location. The native ONVIF and RTSP support is also super cool here. You can even run the home assistant docker container on this thing if you want to. I got this thing set up and paired to devices super quickly. Overall I'm really impressed with this device and it makes for a great sub $100 smart home hub.

The SONOFF iHost Smart Home Hub has some positive aspects, such as its ability to serve as a private local server for secure home automation. It's a solid option for those concerned about privacy. However, its user interface and setup process could be more user-friendly and intuitive. It took some time to get everything configured correctly. Overall, it does the job but could use improvement in user experience.

I consider myself somewhat tech savvy, but unpacking this device and initial setup tested my patience. A "Quick Startup" guide would have been helpful. The documentation provided was printed in "micro" font wasn't helpful. After scanning the manual QR code, I was able to setup the device. I paired a zigbee motion and door sensors. I'm still haven't familiarize myself with the device capability - this will take time. The sensors were responsive and all security breaches were captured and recorded for further review.I noticed the SONOFF firmware is 1.4.2. A quick firmware search identified an updated firmware 1.5.5 is available, but its unclear how to download and install.I installed and linked the SONOFF to the eWeLink app, but I haven't examined its benefit.I'm awarding 4 🌟. I removed 1 🌟, because a lack of a startup guide and my inability to update to the current firmware. I will issue an update after I fully examine this device.

Ihost is easy to use when it comes to add devices both Zigbee and Tasmota. It has some issues regarding scenes regarding time delay in Away mode. But I think future updates will address this. Easy to install add-on via docker and then the filebrowser add-on to gain access to system files.

It's essentially a very weak low powered server. By nature, a smart home hub is a bit annoying to set up and maintain, but compare to other smart home hubs, it's no worse than others. Overall it doesn't make life any easier or less complicated but does make synching, controlling some electronics a chore that can be done in 1 place as opposed to a ton of different places. This is definitely an effective smart home hub and comes at a nice under $100 price.

I’ll start with the positives.1. Sleek design2. Nice UI3. Local controlNow for the negatives.1. Not super user friendly2. Does not support Z-Wave at all3. Support is slow to respondIt is sad that a statement is made that this works with everything but then when you really dig into it, you find out that some zigbee equipment may or may not work, and zwave is not supported at all. Documentation mentions nothing about the lack of zwave support. I emailed support to find that out.I own a combination of zwave and zigbee equipment, all controlled by one smartphone hub. I shouldn’t have to replace all my zwave equipment. Sonoff should support zwave so they can really “work with everything”.If you’re just getting started with smartphone automation, I would stay away from this iHost controller unless you plan to invest 100% on zigbee and matter and you have a lot of time in your hands. That said, I don’t recommend this controller.
