The automatic reset circuitry protects controls by detecting shorts and illuminating an indicator light. When the light is on, a short exists. Simply remove connections until the light goes off, indicating the short is fixed. It features 12-inch leads terminated with alligator clips for flexible connection to wires. No need for an assistant - you can troubleshoot shorts on your own quickly and safely. Just attach the clips, watch for the light and follow it to the short. Its simple one-button design makes it suitable for technicians and DIYers alike. Fix shorts fast without risk of further damage to equipment.

Very handy version of a similar tool that I purchased here. It can be inserted anywhere to isolate low voltage faults.

This is an indispensable tool for finding shorts in the low-voltage side of HVAC systems. The tool didn’t come with instructions but it’s easy to use: connect the tool in place of the fuse. There’s a short in the system if the light on the tool turns on. Then it’s a matter of disconnecting circuits until the light goes off. There may still be an intermittent short even if the light doesn’t come on, which would require additional diagnostic. There are lots of usage information on the internet for this product; just search “short pro tool.” I actually owned an original Short Pro Tool until I misplaced it. That tool has “Manufactured in the U.S.A” and a patent number printed on the label. On this tool, the “manufactured in the” location was painted over with a marker and there’s no patent number on the label (see photo), so this is most likely an imitation. But this tool seems to work just as well as the original, and it costs less. You can decide which one you want.
