The tuning key does work really great. The shipment was a farcical disaster. I do not understand when shippers bypass byer's shipping recommendations. I have lived here for eighteen years and have learned what works and what doesn't.

I have a pair of Stagg bongos. It takes a lot of tension to tune the heads. The little drum key provide with the drums doesn’t provide enough torque. This product solves that problem with longer lever arm.

The wrench is the perfect key for my Infinity Mondo Djembe. I find that when I use the key in the straight up mode, I can tighten the pins to a point where the head gets so tight that the the black rubber handle will begin to spin just a little . This is very very close to the perfect tightness for me. I then bend the tools handle to the 90 degree mode and tighten just a bit more and I've got the perfect sweet spot I'm looking for on my drum.To me, this tool is indispensable.

This is actually two parts put together. There is a handle (5 inches long when bent into an "L" x 3/4" diameter) and a socket with the usual square drum lug opening on the useful end and a standard 1/4" socket drive on the other end. The handle could be used with your 1/4" drive socket set and the socket could be used with any of your 1/4" drive wrenches (e.g., a ratcheting socket wrench, a "screwdriver" handle, extensions, etc.). This makes this tool a very versatile combination. Nothing wrong with how it comes (use it like a screwdriver or turn the lug 180 degrees, then flip the handle over and repeat), but it's even better than that. Mine did not look exactly like the photo shown on 1/1/14: my black, rigid plastic handle is a little fatter than the one shown and it has a perpendicular hole through the end for mounting on a nail or tying a string through.

Exactly what I needed for tuning my Remo djembe. Fits well, nice product. Just what I expected. Would buy again if I lost this one.

The tuning lugs of a Remo djembe are set far below the rim to give full freedom to the hands, and a standard drum key does not have enough length to clear the sides of the head when the key is turned. Since most available sockets are hexagonal, a four-sided key like this one is ideal. It has the necessary length, and the swivel action makes it very easy to use and fast. I bought my djembe used, and the seller no longer had the key that should have come with it. This one works great, and it is well-made and sturdy. So, if you need a spare or replacement, I can easily recommend it.
